Came here with a big group for a birthday at noon on a Saturday, when we arrived, there was only one other two person table filled. I've come here for apps and drinks before, but this was the first time for a sit down meal, for brunch.
Overall, our experience was a bit shaky. We understood we were a big group and expressed a ton of patience and nice attitudes, because we know that is a tall ask. Our waitress was fine, but didn't appear to know much about the menu or have answers to our questions. It appeared she was pretty new and "had a long night" as it was put, which we all said was no issue at all.
A few of us ordered mimosas, and when it came out, it arrived in a pretty average sized glass, couldn't have been more than 8-12 OZ. I was expecting the "big mimosa" that is advertised on the brunch menu, but I didn't specify, so maybe I had to do that I figured. When I ordered the next one, I asked specifically twice if they had the big mimosa on the menu and the waitress said she didn't know and that's what the bar gave her. This was anything but a "big mimosa" and it felt like bad advertising to have that on a menu and then be served something that was so small.
Then, we ordered some appetizers. We ordered the fried pickles and when they arrived, they looked severely under-fried, and that was confirmed once we bit into the soft and undercooked dough. It took about 10 minutes for our waitress to come back to our table (again, we were the only group besides another party of 2 in the dining area), and we informed her of it and she took them away. We had a second order that we cancelled as well. It was shocking that they allowed them to be served like that, because it was clear the second they were put on the table that they didn't look right. We also ordered a plate of nachos that barely had any cheese and toppings on it at all, especially for the price.
For our entrees, a few people had ordered fried chicken sandwiches and they all said they appeared to be very underfried as well. There wasn't the crunch that you would expect, it tasted more baked, which isn't what a fried chicken sandwich is. There had to be something going on with their deep frier, or the cooks just didn't really care about that food. I'm not sure.
I had a vegan pizza that I did enjoy, and the brussell sprout salad was awesome, but the rest of the food was very lackluster and left us all pretty unsatisfied with our experience. The food did come out in a timely manner, which was a positive. I really wanted to love this place, and would come back for drinks and apps, but definitely not a...
Read moreThree Notch’d used to be one of my favorite breweries in RVA but after my experience tonight I will not be back. Their drink menu was much smaller than in the past (mostly IPAs, only two sours, and one cider even though they had more options to go). The glassware smelled unclean and the beers smelled old. We came for trivia and were told we could sit where everyone because trivia would take place over the loud speakers throughout both sides of the venue. Not the case. About 10 minutes into trivia we found out they were only doing it on the opposite side from us and it took another half hour for them to even show the questions on the tvs on our side (still nothing over the loud speaker). We decided to stick it out and order food but that was also terrible. The pork on the nachos tasted like straight sugar and the pretzel bites were not pretzels (it seemed like they were just pizza dough with salt on top). The service was terrible (the bartender ate her own dinner behind the bar the whole time) meanwhile a crowd of about 70 runners filled the bar and took up all the seats (not their fault but still very frustrating). I was so excited for them to have a restaurant and was very let down. Feels more like a glorified cafeteria hall with very underwhelming, borderline inedible food that’s...
Read moreAnother great brewery in Richmond, Va. I stopped in at the West Broad location for lunch. It was not crowded and I was greeted by a friendly bar tender as soon as I entered the taproom. The taproom is in a turn of the last century warehouse. The decor is a cool mixture of modern and vintage industrial. Lots of natural sunlight in the large, open taproom area. There are some low tables with chairs, as well as long, counter height community tables. They also have some outdoor seating with a view of the parking lot and West Broad St. Not a great view, and it was a little noisy from car traffic, so I sat inside. Three Notch’d has a surprisingly large selection of non-alcoholic brews for those wishing to avoid a beer buzz. Perfect for the Designated Driver who still wants a beer. I ordered the Grilled BLT with fries and a pint of Ghost of the James. The food and beer were excellent. And they have a great selection of brewery schwag if you want to show your support for Three Notch’d in the form of a T-shirt, sticker, or etc. I highly recommend this brewery/taproom. This was my second visit here, and I’ll...
