✨I’m a Fan Girl of the VMHC✨
As a PhD in history, I had the incredible opportunity to spend two weeks at the VMHC on a short term fellowship. The VMHC truly exceeded my expectations. The staff is wonderful, effortlessly setting me up at a reading table with all my documents. Everything needed for my research was at my fingertips—rich sources that became the core of my dissertation. Their deep knowledge of the collections is inspiring.
✨The reading room is lovely and so comfortable, making it a place where you could easily spend all day. Unlike other places, this one invites you to stay, as if saying, “Can I get a pillow and a cup of tea? I’ll be just fine here.” It’s the best library I’ve ever worked in.
✨I explored the rest of the museum and found wonderfully curated exhibits, including Julia Child’s display during my visit.
✨The café offers fantastic food—definitely not the usual skip-it experience. I enjoyed a latte or cappuccino every morning, often savoring lunch and dessert there. I’m truly a fan!
✨The gift shop is equally charming, with thoughtfully selected items. I still cherish my sweater and pins.
✨Parking is easy and accessible, as are all entryways and museum navigation for those using wheelchairs.
If you’re in the area, take your time to explore every inch of this remarkable place. In my experience, it ranks among the best in the country, and I’ve visited many libraries, archives, and special collections. The friendly and helpful staff makes it a truly inspiring...
Read moreThis place is 5 stars all the way! They do an excellent job interpreting the states history. Everything was laid out really well. They also have a cafe and a gift shop.
Down to the logistics. I have severely limited mobility and depend on an electric scooter to get around. This place was extremely accessible. There are bathrooms on the first and second floor. My only complaint is that there is a walk in family/handicap bathroom on the first floor only. There are standard men and women’s bathroom on the second floor.
There are benches all throughout the museum. All of the displays are easy to see and read. The staff are scattered around and are very helpful.
The cafe had a limited menu but what we had was good. I got a premade ham and Swiss sandwich which was really good. We also got ice cream sandwiches which were really good.
Overall we spent over 3 hours there and honestly rushed through and skimmed the last room. We could’ve easily spent 4 hours visiting. There is an elevator to help those with limited mobility navigate the museum.
We came to this area from south Jersey just to see this museum and it was well worth it. I...

If you want to eat at the museum cafe, don’t go too late.
The employees at the cafe lied to us, saying “we can’t serve you espresso” or “the machine is broken.”
It was not.
They had just already cleaned the machine and wanted to go home. It takes a long time to properly clean but come on, that wasn’t nice deceiving us like that.
We are reasonable people, if they told us the truth, we would have accepted it. Instead they served me drip coffee in a giant paper cup.
They even refused to serve me in a proper porcelain cup, because that would have meant cleaning up after us. Instead everything was disposable.
Meanwhile my son asked for a Chai Latte and they told us their foamer wasn’t working. Bullcrap. They just didn’t want to have to clean it again. Distasteful.
Don’t eat at the cafe, take your money to another place where the people are friendly and the truth is spoken.
We...
