I didnt want to give these guys 1-star because I really do like the place, but my review today isn't about liking the place only but for the value they provide. I used to be in here once a week when I lived in Scott's Addition over a decade ago. I mean since they opened their doors, pretty much. The burritos were always delicious and I always knew a server or bartender or both as time went on. I went in here this past week to buy my uncle and I some lunch. We decided to sit down and eat because it had been a while since we just got to chill (most of the time, it feels like we're just working hard these days all the time).
My uncle and I both got a "happy hour" burrito, chips and salsa, 2 waters, and my uncle got a sweet tea. When the bill came, it was $56 and some change. After reviewing the bill, I noticed the bartender charged us $3 three separate times for my uncle's sweet tea refills. I know what some service industry people may say that it takes time to pour any kinds of drinks, but I've literally never been charged for soft drink/sweet tea refills with my meal. I still tipped the guy $11-12, but I told him that he could've at least let us know that the refills were $3 each. He responded that new management has asked them to charge for every refill. If thats policy fine, but I dont agree with it, especially when ordering food with my drink. Just tell me.
Generally speaking though, we had 2 burritos, chips and salsa, and a sweet tea for $67 total on a Tuesday. It didnt feel like a good value and not being disclosed the charge on the refills kind of rubbed me the wrong way, hence the 2 star review. The burrito was good but Banditos has a better one and gives free chips and salsa, and it's right up the street. I felt it was a cheap grab for a couple dollars cash to someone whose supported the place for over a decade. New management or not, I didnt appreciate it. I hope they're able to do well in this spot, but $67 for two people to sit down and have burritos is insane to me, especially after the drink refill charges weren't advised in advance like it's some kind of...
Read moreCame in around 1240am on a Friday night for some late night food and from the minute we walked in, I felt like every employee was annoyed that we were there even though they're open til 2 and advrertise that they serve food til 1am. Hostess sat us begrudgingly and waitress took a while to come over. We placed our food order right away, a bunch of tacos and some guacamole. Waited for at least 20 minutes or more for the waitress to come tell us that they were out of guac which was pretty disappointing. She did offer us some chips and salsa instead, but I didn't care for any of the salsas. Then we waited and waited and waited for our tacos. The waitress did check in a few times and apologize, but it just took forever. It was nearly 130am when we finally got our food. And the most disappointing thing was that the tacos were barely edible. They were served in a pool of grease and the tortilla was saturated in it. And you'd think they'd come out hot since the kitchen took so long, right? Nope, meat was luke warm. The tacos were so greasy that I couldn't even pick them up and had to eat the meat with a fork. The waitress was cordial, but never even asked how our food was because if she had, I would've told her how awful it was. By that point, we had been there for an hour and were just over it and ready to leave. Super disappointing since I had been here a few weeks back and had great food and service. Seemed like a totally different restaurant tonight. Major fail.
Update: came back a year later. Unfortunately, not much has changed since my last review. Sat at the bar at 1130pm. Neither of the two bar tenders greeted me or asked for my order. I even asked one of them what time they closed and he responded 2am and walked away without asking if I wanted a drink. Maybe I look too old to be sitting at the bar there. I was hoping to grab a bite to eat and have a few margaritas, but I ended up walking out without ever being offered service. I think...
Read moreI have been wanting to get tacos at En Su Boca for the longest time. I read some reviews and I noticed that most people were very happy with the food here. I read some other bad reviews to try and make an objective decision. We decided to go and get a couple of tacos. I was a little skeptical with the bad reviews because realistically, it is very hard to ruin tacos. So, I assumed that I would be able to see for myself that these bad reviews where wrong. To my surprise, other than the tacos, the majority of the food I saw being served looked very scrumptious and delicious. We got our tacos and… Disappointment. Again, I think you have to really try if you want to ruin a taco. And I didn't like these. To start with: we ordered the guacamole which was not bad. However, the chips seemed old, stale and chewy, kind of hard to bite on. The Chicken Tinga taco was a bit surprising because we were not able to identify if this was actually chicken. It looked kind of soggy and the flavor was not anything memorable. My shredded carne asada taco was pretty uneventful and unsurprising. I think it was okay but it had a bit of an aftertaste. I think the ambience was okay. The bartenders were nice but a bit detached. My girlfriend did like the Margarita so that's a plus. Important to clarify that parking is quite difficult. There are some spaces in the back of the building off Myers Street. However, these fill up very quickly. I decided to take my chances and park on the farthest corner of ALDI hoping that my car would not be towed away. In a nutshell, a bit disappointed but I am sure that other people may have had a different experience with different type of food so I am not completely ruling out to return in the future. The patio seems nice but it was raining a lot...
