For my birthday, I was planning on getting some real good pizza. I wanted Vinny's, but turns out they're closed this weekend, so I tried the other place I've been wondering about since I moved to Ridgefield. This was a mistake.
The pizza here is downright bad. Reading the other reviews, I don't know if I just got a bad batch or what, but I did not like it in the slightest and will not be returning. The crust was thin, but in a really bad way. It was super hard - not crispy, just hard, but still somehow not burnt - but the inside was almost raw? I'm including pictures. It kind of felt like they just lay two pieces of dough together and then sort of cooked it. There were huge air pockets so you could see THROUGH the pizza for some reason. In fact, some pieces were ALL air pocket. How is an entire piece an air pocket? How is that even possible? I wish I had taken a picture of one, sorry. Anyway. The crust was just terrible. I love the crust of a pizza, it's what makes or breaks it.
Also, I didn't realize you could put too many toppings on a pizza, but man did they prove that point. There were SO many pepperonis. I had to take off about half. Why would I need that many pepperonis? Is it because you're trying to hide how bad your pizza is? Clearly, yes.
To add insult to injury, this place is insultingly expensive. It cost me over $30 for this pizza. 20 inches, sure it's decently large I guess, but it was a very low quality product. I expected for that much money to at least WANT to eat the leftovers. I ate because I was hungry and in a hurry. And because I paid so, so much. A $7.99 pizza from Domino's is leaps and bounds above this. That's embarrassing.
It's not the worst pizza I've ever had. But again. It wasn't good. I can't in good faith recommend this to anyone, and I will give my cousins an earful for recommending it.
Ugh. What a trashy birthday dinner. I should have just...
Read moreAfter going here off and on for decades, today I am officially done supporting this place. I called in my order of 4 pizzas for my large family. I was told because I was ordering 4 pizzas that they couldn't cook them until they were paid for. I only had cash at the moment and said that I would be there in 15 minutes and that I had been going there for years. They said it didn't matter. And even if I had a card they wouldn't take a payment over the phone. So the new policy is no payments over the phone and can't cook the pizza until you get there and pay. My family decided to proceed anyway. When I arrived to pay and wait the 15 minutes for the pizza to be made, I see the place is completely empty, not a single customer. On the menu it says if you are in a hurry to call ahead and use the drive thru. I was denied both due to the size of my order. Two other customers walked in and picked up already made orders while I was waiting for mine. I asked the manager for contact info for the owner or a corporate email to contact them. She told me it was personal information and that only the employees can contact corporate, not customers. I told her this was very frustrating and that I cannot be the only customer they've lost due to this. She agreed and told me how many other pizza places are around and that they are doing the best they can. Basically, that they didn't need my business. As a business owner myself I am so disgusted with the way the manager tried to argue with me and denied me the opportunity to talk to the owner and explain why after 20+ years I won't be returning. On top of it all, the pizza I had to wait to be cooked, was luke warm and almost cold. So sad to see a once good family friendly place go downhill. No longer going out of my way to pay for the most expensive cold pizza ever! They are apparently too good for...
Read moreWe used to love Papa Petes but it is just too expensive for what you get. We got a large combo this last time and it came with only 4 slices of bell pepper on it. I mean come on. The pizza was over $32 and they couldn't put more bell pepper on it. Definitely not worth the price paid. The restaurant is always dirty... always! It was really slow this last time and plenty of staff standing around and yet the floor was a mess, tables covered in food, plates, and cups. We had to ask for a towel and wipe down our own table as none of them wanted to move. We have also experienced being put on hold and hung up on multiple times as others have stated. Sadly we probably won't be back as not only is the price too high but the customer service, cleanliness, and food quality has deminished to the point of not being worth the hassle. If you want good pizza and great service make the extra drive to Longview and eat at Brunos instead.
Update: Ate here again. The pizza was delicious just like we remembered. Still only 4 bell peppers on a pizza that is over $30. The staff is really mismanaged here! I can not say that enough! They were taking turns playing games in the game room while the restaurant still needed to be cleaned again food all over the floors and just basically untidy. I wouldn't have an issue with them taking breaks & goofing off if the restaurant was actually clean. If they were busy I could understand the state of the restaurant as well but we were the only 5 customers there and there was at least 5 staff we could see...
They will not sell you a 2 liter soda unless you are getting food to go and do not offer pitchers of soda. They expect you to spend $2.95 a head for soda... after spending over $60 on two pizzas. No way! Excellent pizza... lack luster everything else. I am keeping the review at 2...
