Shawarma Refuge — Restaurant in Ridgefield

I want to love this place I really do and maybe it’s better at the actual food truck but both times I’ve ordered through Instacart, I’ve been disappointed. The first time I ordered the chicken shawarma and at first I took a bite and was like yum. But then I took another bite and was like “are there French fries in here!?”. Nowhere on the description does it say they put French fries in there. I don’t like French fries in my burritos or wraps at all. So the second time I was like okay I’ll try it again. This time I’ll write in the notes that I don’t want the French fries in there. They don’t let you select and deselect the items you want in there they just leave a spot for notes. I even paid the extra $3 for extra meat so that it would replace the French fries I guess they put in there. What I received was just an extremely greasy wrap full of only meat and pickles. No sauce, no tomatoes. Just greasy meat and pickles. I did pay $1 for a small plastic cup of garlic sauce and thankfully I did because even though the grease was dripping on my shirt, it tasted dry somehow. I gave three stars because I’m sure it’s good when it’s done right and maybe if I didn’t order from Instacart and just ordered straight from the truck I would have gotten exactly what I wanted. We stumbled upon the Shawarma Refuge food truck in Ridgefield, WA, and it was one of the best dining surprises we’ve had in a long time. Bassam, the owner, greeted us warmly and made fantastic recommendations—especially the baklava (flaky and perfectly sweet) and an imported soda called Vimto, which tasted like an elevated black cherry drink.

We ordered the falafel plate, lamb bowl, seasoned fries, and of course the baklava. Every bite was bursting with flavor. Most falafel is overly dry but Bassam’s falafel was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside, the lamb was tender and seasoned to perfection, and the hummus was so fresh and creamy it could be a meal on its own.

Bassam’s kindness truly stood out. As we were heading back to our car, he actually ran after us to give us something we had forgotten—talk about above-and-beyond service! Between the incredible food and the genuine hospitality, this is a place we’ll be returning to again and again.

Best service from a food cart ever! Would highly recommend this place to anyone. If you're craving authentic halal shawarma, look no further than this food cart! I had the pleasure of stopping by recently, and it was a total game-changer. The shawarma is absolutely packed with flavor—tender, perfectly spiced meat.

The portions are generous, and you can tell they use quality ingredients. What really stood out to me, though, was the friendly and welcoming service. The staff was quick, efficient, and made sure my order was just right. It’s obvious they take pride in their work!
