I am writing this review at 2:19 AM after being awaken with a queasy stomach. I have just finished my 2nd run to the bathroom. I have had food poisoning before, so I am aware of what it feels like. This was it.
The way I ran to the bathroom both times is the same way YOU SHOULD RUN FROM HERE: FAST.
I have eaten here twice. The first time was about a week or two ago. The second time was 2 days ago. The first time, I ordered the cajundillas. It was ok. I enjoyed the red beans and rice. Nothing left a lasting impression, but I decided i should come back & try something different. The menu looked promising.
My husband and I decided to try it out again. That night, he mentioned going to Half Shell. i wanted to try Walk-Ons again, so that's where we went. I wish we had gone with his suggestion.
The restaurant was again packed to the brim. We only waited 5-10 mins before the waiter guided us to a booth that had food on the seats and ALL KINDS OF STUFF under the table. It was sticky. There was food, napkins, & a birthday hat thrown under the table. One minute later, a woman who seemed to be a manager walked over to us and apologized, saying we shouldn't have been seated at that booth. She moved us to a clean one.
We ordered an appetizer - the Devils on Horseback- and our entrees at the same time. I ordered the Pastalaya and my husband ordered the Voodoo Shrimp + Grits.
The Devils on Horseback is shrimp, cream cheese, and jalapeños wrapped in bacon and then the whole thing is breaded and deep fried. THIS IS WHERE THE 1 STAR COMES IN! I'm sitting there eating the appetizer - commenting that it's different, when my husband says "It doesn't look like they cooked this bacon enough... or at all." I looked at the bacon and said, "oh, I'm sure its soggy from being wrapped up in the breading." because WHY WOULD I THINK THAT A RESTAURANT WOULD BE NEGLIGENT ENOUGH TO SERVE RAW BACON?!? I mean, there's absolutely NO WAY, right?! Well, my husband didn't eat the bacon, but I did. i knew this would be the perfect science experiment. Was the bacon cooked or not? SPOILER ALERT: IT OBVIOUSLY WAS NOT!!! My stomach is still currently queasy. And after doing some deductive reasoning, I have concluded that the reason is THAT DOGGONE RAW BACON! My husband is currently at work and feeling FINE.
BUT WAIT! Don't go. That's not the end of the story. My husband's entree, the Voodoo Shrimp and Grits had that same bacon wrapped Shrimp on top. He proceeded to pull the bacon off just as he'd done the appetizer, thank God. He commented that the Grits were good. However, my Pastalaya had ABSOLUTELY NO TASTE AT ALL. I never send anything back, but I had to this time. My husband was almost finished eating, so i told the waitress to just take it back- i didnt want it replaced. The waitress came back with the supposed manager, who told me that the cajundillas and the pastalaya were both frequently sent back. Both she & the waitress recommended the Bayou Pasta, giving it extremely high praises. I obliged and asked them to put my food in a to-go box. Why I didn't taste that food before I left, I will never know! We did have a problem with our ticket- there was a $3 charge for some extra cream sauce. I suppose it was for my dish, because the pasta had cream sauce, but I never asked for extra. The waitress, who was new, couldnt find the manager, so she just brought us $3 cash. We ended up tipping our waitress $11, and I left pretty dissatisfied. NOTE: Please tip your servers SOMETHING, no matter what!
At home, I became even more dissatisfied when I tasted that Bayou Pasta. Absolutely NO TASTE! My husband & my oldest child tasted it just to be sure I wasn't tripping! They agreed. I gave it to my 4 year old. I ate cereal that night.
Needless to say, my husband and I have both agreed we won't be back. My stomach is still queasy, so I can't sleep. You do what you want, but next time, I will INSIST...
Read moreThis is my second time coming and my last. The first wasn’t as bad as today but was still bad, our party arrived at 3:50 a party of 10 we did not get seated until 4:51. During the wait there was bad communication about updating on when we get seated I understand it’s Sunday and workers didn’t show up for work that wasn’t the issue but when I hear the manager constantly tell the waitress who sees our frustration to continuously take care of other parties that didn’t sit well. We finally got seated waitress took drinks order brought them back and went missing for 20 min. She finally came back and took our food order, the entire party finally received food minus me 30 min later. I had to wait an additional 15-20 min to get my food everybody else has already eaten I only ordered blackened catfish. I requested to speak with manager this is where it became clear I would never come here again. From the get go the manager is in defense mode and not listening everytime I express a problem she a reason why instead of listening I clearly stated I didn’t want a free meal but to train staff on communicating better and here only reply everytime was I can take it off your ticket because we are packed and wait times will be long. She never listened to understand she listened to reply so my reply is to never in my life eat at an establishment like that again. The manager and staff needs training on communication ASAP I know nothing will happen but I did want to inform the upper management of an issue that has happened on both my visits. I don’t know the waitress name she was a young black girl with braids and the manager was a mid twenties white woman and neither seemed to care about the...
Read moreSecond time going here and will not be returning. The first time we had a fairly pleasant experience but this second visit was horrible. We had the rudest waitress. When she first seated us we were sat at a table directly by the door which was completely fine until we could visibly see a continuous amount of dust flying over us and our table. We asked if we could be relocated to a booth we saw available that was clean and ready to go. When we asked she stormed off and came back with an attitude saying, “if you want a booth you have to get on the waiting list.” Which was fine with us it was the delivery of the message that was off putting. Someone that seemed to be in charge of her called her over mid sentence and she stepped in to talk with us instead. This lady unlike our waitress was very pleasant and was happy to seat us at the open booth immediately. She visited our table twice our whole visit every visit having the worst attitude. Those two visits consisted of taking our order for our drinks and the other one was taking the order for our food. She gave us no silverware, no napkins and no refills. We had to hunt her down for our check which we could see she was too busy chatting with all of her friends at the front counter while she got her hair played with. We saw that the total did not look correct after payment so we asked for the check to double check and she just stormed off and didn’t give us a receipt. With this waitress I give a 1/5 experience. If we would or gotten the sweet lady at the front it would be 3/5. Food was greasy and not hot. My fiancé got a burger with fried jalapeños on it that could chip a tooth they...
