Prices are very reasonable and there is a lot of value for the caliber of food on display at this cafe. The homemade bagel sandwiches are stacked and delicious, made to order with vegetables not already wilted from the clearance section, (a rarity for the area). Breakfast burritos actually have well cooked potatoes in them (another rarity), and rotating weekly specials are well thought out and delicious.
The espresso drinks never rise to the heights of some of their up-valley counterparts to be considered "destination coffee," yet they are still confidently made and satisfying. There is a great flow to the space between the grab and go coffee counter and places to sit for some light table service. Employees have always been genuine, kind and helpful.
There are occasionally some slight inconsistencies in quality, and sometimes the homemade food will clash with their more basic accompaniments. I've heard they have good lunch, yet they close at noon on the weekends, (which is when lunchtime begins, not ends) so I haven't gotten to make it in yet.
These gripes however are inconsequential compared to the big picture. This is the best place to eat food in Rifle, period. My hope is that Whistle Pig is the small pebble that eventually starts a rock slide in the town's culinary community.
Fresh ingredients matter, always. Their long lines prove that if you present peoples taste buds with a better option they will welcome it with open arms and...
Read moreKitchen takes forever and front staff could not care less about customers. We came in for take out on a Sunday with maybe 3 other tables currently sat. Should have taken the cue when 2/3 other parties came up asking when their food would come. We waited 35 minutes for two sandwiches, at which point one came out wrong and the other didn’t include the side we ordered. Because it was past closing by the time our food finished, the staff was now eating their own lunch. For some reason their food was ready right at noon but the customer orders took some time. When we went back in to get the order corrected, we were met with a lack of care or apology for the mistake, and instead were given something we didn’t order as a “you’re welcome”. The front counter woman with glasses and the chef seemed upset we even came back and asked for it to be corrected. Tried calling the store to speak with the manager or owner and they ignored the phone. The food ended up being over cooked and burnt. Never come here if you want to be treated like a human.
For someone who has worked in food service for years, you know when to be understanding, and when you are being treated poorly. I know how easy it is to give bare minimum service.
EDIT: Gladly won't come back, and gladly will tell everyone I know to never come by. Solid response from a...

I forgot to take photos of the food dang it! We all thought everything was friggin amazing! I’ll definitely be coming back to this establishment. We got a regular hot dark roast with 1/2&1/2, a hot white chocolate mocha and a hot caramel macchiato. All really good but strong for myself I’m sensitive to caffeine but I wanted the buzz! We also got a breakfast burrito with sausage, a meat lovers burrito and a grilled cheese with bacon! I loved the salsa! I’m picky to with salsas! Valeria greeted us , she was running the counter. Very welcoming, friendly and patient with my father in law. Sabrina was very helpful and informative. She made our coffees and easy to talk to. Jonny was cooking we didn’t see him but the food was...
