Muy decepcionado con mi experiencia desde la calidad de la comida hasta el servicio.
First of all, they should remove the "authentic mexican" from their sign. This is TexMex, nothing more.
Our server greeted us immediately and was very friendly throughout our visit, I just don't think serving is his Forte. And no, before anyone comes for me, it was not due to miscommunication. Despite him having limited English, that bridge was easy gapped, as my husband is Mexican, from Mexico, and is his first language as well. So both my husband and I spoke to him in Spanish. The third woman in our party does not speak Spanish, but he would look to us for help when he didn't understand something. No problem! We get it, and help our fellow countrymen.
We started off by ordering drinks. I ordered a peach margaritas, frozen. But my husband and third guest ordered coronaritas, frozen. I received my margarita, but come to find out it was a daiquiri, non alcoholic. Fine, I'm not a big drinker anyway I just like the taste, so it wasn't a big deal (although I wish we weren't charged for a margarita). The 2 coronaritas came back on the rocks. My husband immediately addressed it and asked for it to be fixed. Our waiter apologized and got them blended.
Once our drinks were finally received as ordered, he finally took our food order. Our good came out very quickly! Which we were very thankful for considering the drinks took so long and we were all very hungry. We only received one of the kids meals we ordered, fine the kids can share, annoying but not a big deal. My order came out wrong. I order the steak jalisco. And it came out as the jalisco meal. Two different things. Which I can understand how that could become confusing. I immediately brought it to the attention of our waiter. Who argued that that is what I ordered, I explained I wanted the steak Jalisco-the Carne asada jalisco. He took the plate back. Let me just explain here that I have some dietary restrictions so I wouldn't have order the jalisco meal which consists of chicken (Pollo plancha) covered in mushrooms and queso. I can't eat queso (as much as I love it). I wanted the steak jalisco which is steak with onion and bell peppers-sounds delish. The waiter comes back with steak covered in mushroom and queso. NOT the meal that I order. Again. At this point, I'm tired, it's been a long day, there have been multiple mistakes, mi husband's food is just okay, our guest said her quesadilla was good, the rest was bland, and the restaurant staff is starting to do clean up chores. So instead of continuing to get the order fixed , I paid, and went to mc Donald's.
Working in the service industry when English is a second language is difficult. However considering we communicated in Spanish the experience is very frustrating. And shame on management and other staff for their gawking and judgment instead of stepping on and offering further assistance to a struggling coworker.
No bueno. de vuelta a la tierra del autentico...
Read more13 September 2023 updated review Horrible tasteless food with incredibly slow service. This was our favorite restaurant, now we'll grab gas station food before getting food here. Waited 10 minutes before a server came to take our order, 40 minutes later the wrong food was brought out to the table, not too long later the right food was brought to the table. Taco salad meat had no seasoning, no taco seasoning or even salt or pepper. The pile of lukewarm unseasoned ground beef was in a deep pool of grease. Tamales, beans, rice, and enchilada all were cold; some with cold centers suggesting the food is frozen and microwaved or something before being brought to the table.
Adding to ruining the eating experience were Las Trancas employees loudly hammering on tables as they made whatever adjustments to the tables and then dragging other tables past diners to their work area to then hammer on those tables.
Unsure who at Las Trancas decided to destroy this previously great restaurant.
Previous review, no longer accurate- Extremely pleasant dining experience. The staff at Las Trancas are all amazingly responsive and attentive. Food is always served quickly and is fresh and warm. I’ve ordered around a dozen different items off of the menu and none have failed to impress me. My favorite is the taco salad with the Chile relleno is a close second. While a taco salad may seem an odd, unremarkable favorite; Las Trancas gets it just right... the shell doesn’t get soggy, it isn’t greasy, and the crispness is just perfect. Finally, the salsa is good; but the spicy salsa available upon request is amazing if you like some heat.
Update: the tilapia and shrimp dishes are...
Read moreWent there with a party of 8, and the place was moderately busy, which 8 people, is a group size, that I at least, feel guilty for bringing that evil upon the wait staff. Despite the group size, the waitress was very nice, extremely competent at her job, and was very "Johnny on the spot" with refills, as well as making sure our orders were out around the same time. The food was great. Probably the first time in a long time, that I killed the entire entree, in a Mexican themed restaurant. Everyone in our party pretty much cleaned the plate, even those in our group, who, medically speaking, shouldn't have. I'm sure my doctor will not be impressed, based on my future blood work results, either, but I do not have any regrets today, maybe later. Like college loans, that's not my problem, that's future me's problem, I don't know future me, but I assume he could very well be a jerk. I was surprised to find a good Mexican themed restaurant in Ripley WV, however, they put a majority of places in Texas, Arizona, and southern California, that I've eaten in the past, to shame, and those areas are notably closer to the home of the recipes. I highly recommend this establishment. So if you're in the area, I would recommend getting off the interstate, and dropping in for...
