I placed an online order to the location in Riverdale, MD for a delivery time of 2:30 PM at my job. I was happy to know that this restaurant delivered because my coworker and I did not have to leave to pick up our lunch, we can continue to work. We had heard that the food was good; therefore, we were excited to try District Taco. It was not until 3:00 PM that I decided to call the District Taco, Riverdale location to see what had occurred. I decided to call the Riverdale location and spoke with a gentleman who stated the food was still there no one picked it up. From that statement I let the gentleman know that I would be coming to the location to pick up the food. I arrived at District Taco in Riverdale around 3:15 PM. I spoke with the manager, about what occurred. She stated that she would not be able to refund any charges back to me because it has to go through her district manager. The manager, stated the location uses Grub Hub and does not have control if no one picks up the order. I am most annoyed that nothing could be done regarding this issue. There should be a disclaimer on the website letting customers know that Grub Hub is the delivery service and there could be a possibility that orders would not be delivered. A phone call would have sufficed in this matter to let me know as the customer that delivery service was not offered. I specifically ordered additional items, because there was a $20.00 minimum charge in order to have the food delivered and I paid for a delivery fee of $5.50 plus 15% tip (3.71) which made my total $35.45. Again, as the customer I paid a fee and tip to a company in which I was responsible for picking up the meal I thought would...
Read moreThe food was relatively good. I got a burrito instead of a taco so my experience may not be relevant to everyone. I came in wanting a taco, but (perhaps understandably) many if not all came with either cheese or mayonnaise on them, and I (disliking both) went with a burrito instead. With that in mind, on to the review!
I added guacamole to my burrito for a small fee and it was a little disappointing - it certainly tasted fresh, but it had almost no flavor and was completely overpowered by the (relatively bland, even) other items in the burrito (chicken, black beans, white rice, cilantro).
The soda fountain was not traditional, and actually only contained soda from one brand (I can't remember the name, but it was quite good) - cream soda, birch beer, root beer, and other classic bottled sodas. Just an interesting note.
The dips were numerous and pretty good (and free), but (this is a relatively minor complaint) the little plastic thimbles you fill with the dip are too small to dip a chip in! This is disappointing because the dips were quite good. Perhaps I missed a larger cup size to fill.
Overall it was a pleasant, clean-feeling alternative to Q'doba and/or Chipotle. I wouldn't rate it super highly for what I got, but then again, I got a burrito and not a taco at a place called District Taco....
Read moreA local chain's Hyattsville outpost. The food is a cross between Mexican street fare (ie the good stuff) and Tex-Mex. On a 2nd visit, the result is acceptable but underwhelming.
The weak points are key ones. The corn tortillas are dry, and not delicious. They don't feel made from scratch, and don't have enough oil. If you want to taste proper corn tortillas for comparison, try the famous R&R Taqueria in Elkridge, MD. Maybe flour are better, but Mexican street fare is traditionally corn.
And the meats I've tried thus far (several, and at peak times) are sort of dry and not as well seasoned as they should be. Americanized filling maybe?
Take the Huevos Rancheros for example. They look awfully much like a sloppy enchilada, with none of the distinct components or potent flavors in other versions I've had. The meat is all but lost under the heavy top layer of cheese. Is it filling for the $9? Sure. Worth repeating? Debatable.
Salsas are fresh and tasty, with 4-5 varieties (and pico) available.
Staff are cordial. Prices are reasonable. This location has ample free parking nearby. There's one or two outdoor tables, and the Riverdale Park Station layout lends itself to a...
