Michael's Pancake House (Riverside) Date of Visit: October 2, 2024
I had breakfast today at Michael’s Pancake House in Riverside, and while it was overall a positive experience, there were a few areas for improvement. I ordered the skirt steak with three eggs, hash browns, and a glass of orange juice. The service was exceptional—friendly, attentive, and very efficient. The staff made me feel welcome and checked in regularly to make sure everything was to my liking.
The eggs were cooked to perfection, exactly as I had requested, and the hash browns were golden, crispy, and well-seasoned, providing a great complement to the meal. The orange juice was fresh and refreshing, rounding out the breakfast nicely.
However, the main part of the meal, the skirt steak, had a couple of issues. While I asked for it to be cooked medium well, I found some parts of the steak closer to medium, which affected the consistency. Additionally, the steak was tough and fibrous, making it difficult to cut through, which detracted from the overall enjoyment. On top of that, it lacked seasoning, so the flavor didn’t quite hit the mark as I had hoped.
Despite these small flaws, the rest of the experience was great. The portions were generous, the ambiance was cozy, and the service alone would make me come back again. Michael's Pancake House is still a great spot for a hearty breakfast or brunch, and with a little improvement on their steak preparation, it could easily be a top-tier experience. I’m looking forward to trying other items on the menu on...
Read moreLocated in the business district of Riverside, I am not a stranger to this location. Prior to the current cuisine, it was a fine Bohemian restaurant with many enjoyable visits with family and friends. The current kitchen is quite good with selections for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The entries are simple, presented nice on the plate, and quite tasty. There is something for everyone. The decor is what was available in the 50's, but it gave me feelings from my youth. One other point was that the place was warm, without the high velocity cold air blowing from the ceiling vents. All wait staff were friendly and pleasant.
When I am in the area, this is my place to enjoy good tasting food no matter what time of day. There are a few similar family owned grills on the north side of Chicago which I frequent that are on the same par as Michael's Pancake House.

Read moreOK - who's been keeping this restaurant a secret from me? You go for the food and the warmth of the people who work there -- there are no white tablecloths, fine china etc. - AND I'm so glad. Because when you get the food brought to you it will nearly be overflowing the plate. Had a Vagabond Skillet on a whim, and wow. Can't describe how delicious and enormous the portion was. I don't even like breakfast that much -- tried it for dinner, and I seriously I now want to eat there all of the time. The food alone would get me back there, but the people who were working just made you feel comfortable, welcomed and unrushed. Sorry my usual go to Breakfast/lunch/dinner Goto place in Brookfield - you have been replaced by Michaels. Let's make sure we eat there and keep their small non-assuming delightful restaurant...
