My sweetheart and I were starving one morning, so we stopped at this obscure little place to drive through. As we pulled in to the lot, we decided to dine in. We usually opt out as small, popular places tend be crowded or unkempt. There was plenty of parking in the lot. Castaneda's dining hall was clean and just busy enough. It's a simple, no frills place, but with clean, bistro and regular seating available, including a salsa bar and a refill soda station. They have 5 different types of salsas with various other condiments and toppings. I must say, this is the first time this Mexican foodie has ever been to a Mexican fast food establishment where all the salsas were delicious. Generally, at least one or two of the salsas will seem unpalatable, but each of these are unbelievably delicious. Note to our Mexican-food lovers: there is an art to pairing salsas with food. It's like fine wine and meal pairing. "Any wine" will not pair with "any dish". Ask the restauranteur to recommend a salsa for your dish, if needed. Leave the chipotle, deep red salsas for fish dishes. Use light, chunky, fresh salsas for meat dishes. Use avocado and green salsas on egg dishes. These salsas are diverse enough that you'll find just the right one for your meal. The veteran staff are friendly and the young staff are focused on their work. We tried the Mexican breakfast burrito filled with rice, beans, chorizo, cheese and egg. It is large in size and pairs nicely with the fresh salsa. The menudo was also delicious. They included hominy in their menudo, which adds a hearty touch not generally available in other menudo recipes. Don't forget to add the lime at the salsa bar to your menudo. It was also nice to see the amount of Doordash business that this restaurant generates. I can see myself ordering through Doordash without breaking the bank. Overall, prices are reasonable and not overpriced. I left satisfied by the dining experience. Muchísimas gracias por todo...
