Falafel House — Restaurant in Roanoke

Really wanted to try this place. We walked into the restaurant in the middle of the day and didn’t see anyone.. no customers and no staff. Called out hello several times, someone looked out from the back office area obviously saw us, then proceeded to totally ignore us for several more minutes.. so we left. I figured they were occupied for some reason so we walked around the block to kill some time. Came back 5-6 min later and there was one person cooking and 1 person waiting for food. The “cook” moved behind the register where we were standing and we assumed he was going to take our order.. he did not. So I asked him “can we order” his response in a rude tone was “very busy now, come back later” OK, so this was one of the strangest restaurant interactions of recent memory. Figured for whatever they were having a bad day. I’ll always give a place a second chance before writing anything negative about them. So we tried again. Again walked into an empty restaurant with the same one man behind the counter. He did not say a word to us just went about his business silently as we looked at the various vegetables, spreads and meat on the other side of the counter. Nothing looked fresh at all and we got a really unwelcome vibe again from the man working there.. so again we left. 2 visits and both times no food.. I was planning to stop somewhere else but saw this while I was driving by. If you let the looks of the place from the outside and inside, get to you, you will definitely miss out on the amazing food. The owner is a little gruff, but you can definitely see past that and see that he actually cares about what you think with the food which I think is hard to find. I am not usually a fan of falafel, but it’s in his name for a good reason they give you a free sample with your food and it was the best falafel I’ve ever tried now I have to go back to get a order of it! There was only one person in front of me and yeah, it’s still took about 25 minutes to get my lunch so if you’re in a hurry, I recommend placing your order ahead of time and picking it up. Also, if you’re gonna dine, I recommend the outside patio area . Is it inside area does feel a little sketchy and cramped. The beef Shawarma was absolutely delicious. I've heard a lot of hype about Falafel House so I decided to try it out for myself. I was a little disappointed because what I ordered was completely different from the pictures people had posted on the internet. I don't know if they made me the wrong meal or what the case maybe, but it was not what I showed the guy I wanted. The meal I ordered looked like kebabs and I received chopped up meat and very little rice. The falafel balls were tasty as in seasoned but tasted like it was over cooked in old oil. The gyro sandwich was OK but tasted plain with no seasonings. I was told that I had to go when it was a certain guy is cooking so maybe I'll try it again on the day that guy works. I love Mediterranean food but I wasn't as pleased as every one else. I'm willing to give it another try on the day the other gut works to see if it lives up to the hype, but my opinion, the food should consistently taste the same no matter...
