During my first trip to Roanoke, I searched online for a breakfast spot, hoping to find one that wasn't a chain or something new to me. Scratch Biscuit Company popped up with good reviews. It is a small restaurant with a hometown feel. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. One thing on the website that drew my attention was the catfish biscuit. I've had catfish for breakfast but not on a biscuit. I had to try it. I also ordered the fried apples. My husband ordered his basic favorite of bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit. When they brought the food to the table, I'm sure our eyes nearly popped out of our head. The biscuits were humongous. The picture doesn't do it justice. I immediately regretted ordering the apples because I knew I wouldn't be able to finish the biscuit. The food was superb...10 out of 10. The biscuit practically melted in your mouth. The fish was tender, and the sauce was a great addition to the biscuit. The apples were good, too. I was glad I ordered the after all even though I didn't finish them. I told my husband that I felt like I was in Texas, where everything is bigger. The portions were generous, and the cost was inexpensive... more than worth it. I look forward to returning next year when we will be back in the area and anytime after that. To the staff, thank you for an unforgettable delicious meal and excellent...
Read moreIt was okay. I think it should be take-out only or they need to expand their inside dining area because it was packed. You felt pressured to eat your food and get out quickly because people are staring at you while you eat to hurry up because they want your table, which I didn't like. It's just too small for dine-in with the sheer volume of business they do. I felt rushed and in the way because everywhere you moved there was someone rightthere in your space due to the overcrowding. Also the food wasn't too impressive. The grits tasted bland and runny like they had milk in them and they were barely flavored, they desperately needed butter. I got the breakfast pot pie and it was overall fine, underwhelming. Something was way too peppery, the gravy perhaps, and it was making all my food spicy. Also they use the american plastic-y looking sliced orange cheese on the biscuit, which I didn't like. I won't be going back again. I would rather go downtown for brunch at Bernards or somewhere else for the amount of money I paid and get a much more calm and pleasant dining experience overall. Even Hardee's and McDonald's is better, more reasonably priced and a calmer atmosphere inside. Even Waffle house beats it for me. I couldn't really focus on much anything else but the need to get in there and get out. Not an...
Read moreSunday Sept 25, 2022 @ 10:45AM. Plain sausage biscuit and coffee, one for me, one for my wife. Upon first unwrapping and holding the good-sized sausage biscuit and raising it to my mouth, before I could take a bite, a large chunk of the biscuit broke off and fell onto the table! Oops. Then as I was actually taking my first bite, 2-3 smaller chunks of the biscuit broke away and they also fell to the table and bounced into my lap. After three more bites, I realized that most of the biscuit had disintegrated with crumbs and chunks all over the table and on the floor - I was left just holding a piece of sausage pattie! The exact same thing happened to my wife who was sitting across from me! The sausage biscuits actually tasted ok but man, what a total freekin mess it made all over the table and my lap. I even looked around at other patrons in the restaurant, and many of them were also experiencing massive biscuit breakdown. This biscuit self-destruction has never happened to me in other restaurants - only at Scratch Biscuit Co. Same thing happened in 2018, 2019 and 2020 at Scratch Biscuit. Maybe their owners could ask around to find a biscuit recipe that does not completely fall apart and make a total mess out of breakfast. Luckily, the coffee did not...
