We hired them for our wedding, and we were severely disappointed in service. My husband and I are very familiar with Mission BBQ, and were excited to have them cater our wedding. The food was great, but the food just does not outweigh the absolute horrendous service and experience we had working with them.
Where to start. First, the catering manager had initially contacted me after I had reached out. I was unable to talk when she first called for the deposit & delivery info, and told her that I would call her back. I had forgotten to follow up, and even forgot that I told her I'd contact her. So months later, I had called a few times. When I finally got a hold of her to pay & confirm the order, I mentioned I'd never heard back and I'd been trying to reach her to confirm the order. She told me "You said you would call me back, and never did". I had no issue with what she said, but her clipped and short tone was the issue. I informed her that I too work in the wedding industry - and when a bride tells me they will get back with me and I do not hear from them, it is my responsibility to follow up with them. Because like all of us, brides are busy and things get forgotten. Anyways, we managed to get it booked and paid our deposit. They contacted me months later, saying they needed my deposit and that I had never paid it. I had to find bank statements to prove I had paid it and have it applied to our account. Then, We made another large payment. When I had contacted them to make the final payment, they said that my other payment wasn't on file. It turns out, they had also applied somebody else's payment to my account instead of theirs. When they refunded hers, they had also refunded mine and never notified me. They didn't figure this out, I did - by yet again contacting my bank and asking for bank statements that were over a year old so that I could find the transaction. So, the week of the wedding, I was expecting to pay a few hundred dollars, and still had to pay almost my entire bill. Then, the day before the wedding, They contacted me again and told me I needed to pay my entire bill! This was the THIRD time my payment had been lost. I'd also received an email prior to that call stating delivery for the wrong date and time (the day before the wedding). I had responded and told them they had the incorrect date and time, that the correct day and time was on the invoice. I then requested confirmation that they would be delivering on the correct day and time. Additionally, my wedding planner had both emailed and called weeks prior to the wedding and the week of the wedding with zero response.
Fast forward to the day of the wedding. My ceremony started at 4:00. My invoice stated delivery at 4 (We had been trying to change this with them for weeks to have them there 10 minutes before 4, but never received a response). 4:30 rolls around, and the food isn't there. They finally showed up around 4:45, according to my planner.
So, to recap, they lost my payment 3 times, never responded to my planner's attempts at contact, never responded to my request for the correct delivery date and time confirmation after they had tried to confirm the incorrect date and time, and the food was late. It was the most disorganized, half-butt attempt at service I'd ever seen and experienced. I own a wedding cake business, I understand the chaotic pace of the wedding industry. But, the level of incompetency and poor service has my husband and I completely dumbfounded.
We will never again use this company for any event. We are both military, and were excited to support a pro-military business. We we're severely disappointed in the service. My husband has notified his command of our experience - they will no longer be using them to cater the command events, and I will certainly not recommend them to my wedding clients. Absolutely horrendous service and experience. We did attempt to find and use a different vendor for our wedding, but by the time we decided to try and switch vendors, we were unable to find a barbecue company with...
Read moreI am a frequent customer of mission bbq and finally thought I would write a review. Since day one I fell in love with their pulled pork, which is piled high and always outstanding. But recently I kept hearing from friends that I just HAD to try their ribs.
Well a little back story on me, I have been using a smoker for years now and my first goal when learning to use it was to learn to make the perfect ribs. I spent months pouring way too much time and money into creating my own dry rub and perfecting the art of smoking them to perfection. The end result usually ends in people telling me they have never had better and begging for a recipe. So I am overly critical of almost every resturaunts ribs and have had them everywhere in town that has them. So far I have never left a resturaunt without being disappointed.
All that changed with mission bbq. These ribs are smoked perfectly, seasoned perfectly, and are BY FAR the best I have ever had in roanoke. They leave the sauce off, so you can pick your flavor, and they pull off the bone cleanly but dont just fall off in a mess. Ribs are my passion, and so when I say I truly love these ribs I can not overstate it. Sorry for the long read but to me I just felt I had to express my satisfaction with a resturaunt that obviously loves their craft enough to make something really special. Thanks mission, I can finally enjoy good cooked bbq thats worth every penny without having to do it myself. You guys are the best!
Oh, and last but not at all least, you guys and girls are the friendliest staff members I have come accross in a long time. You all are friendly, always asking how everything was, and even offer to take up our trays when we are done. Thanks for being so kind every visit, I come in for the great food, I come back because of the...
Read moreSometimes it's not that everything is right, but that everything is made right. I came in today to order for a group of 7 for takeout. I was going to do the catering item for 5 people then add a few items which includes 3 pounds of up to 3 meats, but then I saw the sampler and thought I could get smaller portions of 6 meats. I asked how much of each meat comes with that item and was told 1/2 a pound. I ordered 2 of them, and then ordered all my sides. I took my receipt and stood to the side to pick up my meal. I looked at the receipt while standing there and noticed that each meat was only 1/4 a pound - and that I'd only be getting 1.5 pounds of meats - not enough for my group. I brought this to the attention of one of the managers. To say they took care of me would be an understatement. They immediately started getting the kitchen staff to start filling the order and had another manager begin to refund and recharge for the catering item instead, just splitting the meats up. At this time another large group came in and in the chaos, they didn't ring me up for the catering item. While I waited to finish, I brought this up to the manager on duty and she simply said, "Don't worry, this one is on the house - just make sure you come back!"
As an owner of a small business in the area who caters lunch for my employees every Friday, Mission BBQ just became one of our Go-To's for our monthly rotation. I also have to mention just how great everything tasted - the meats were all smoked perfectly and the sides were delicious. The staff at this location really care about the customers and they definitely want you to have a good experience. I can't recommend this...
