I used to work here. It was awful. I went to the hospital twice while I had employment there due to the stress that workplace caused me. I was freshly 17 and a student at the college down the street. The owner of that place took advantage of that and treated me like I was supposed to be an adult with experience. Any minor convenience I had she would get frustrated by my “child like behavior”. I had a preferred name that I would encourage everyone to call me and she blatantly ignored it because my biological name was “so beautiful”. It was rude and I was uncomfortable everytime she was in the same room as me. The amount of unprofessionalism that woman embodied was lethal. She fired me because I told a coworker of mine that I was probably gonna quit to work on school once I finished my payments towards my dog. Apparently the manager, Lisa, didn’t like that. She termed me through iMessage without giving me a notice. Saying that I was “drama filled” and “less reliable every week”. It was frustrating because I was a full time student and worker. I never missed a day. I left early twice due to those hospital trips. I find it funny and ironic that she fired me over such things but her and everyone else who works there is working for the same reason. To pay bills. The hypocrisy is astonishing. She treated me differently than the other teenagers who worked there simply because I graduated early. The other teens got the soft “kids will be kids” and “they’re growing up” treatment while I got the harsh “you’re an adult, suck it up” treatment. Lisa, I hate you with a burning passion, but your lack of proper management gave me the strength to push myself.
The cupcakes are terrible. They top it with so much stuff that you might as well just be eating icing with toppings. Although you might think I’m biased, this is my honest review. The cookies are stale and flavorless. It instantly kills a crave for sweet treats. It’s way overpriced for it to be that bad. You might as well be throwing your money away.
The advertisement isn’t all that truthful either, but that’s all I’m gonna...
Read moreETA: While my below review is true, I wanted to amend my rating from a 2☆ to 4☆ for how wonderfully Lisa handled my feedback. She has offered me a refund and based on talking to her I do think that my issues were the result of overworked staff during the unexpectedly busy holiday season. I'd be willing to go back to this shop the next time I'm in town and give their cakes another chance on a smaller scale.
Honestly? I was pretty disappointed. I placed my order online. I'm from out of town and was so excited to pick up the dozen cupcakes I got to celebrate some birthdays and the holidays with local family.
Based on the photos I'd happily pay the rather pricy $5ish per cupcake. What I got...wasn't like the photos. At all. I realize they really dress things up for promotional photos and of course didn't expect 100% accuracy but I ordered some super cute very sprinkled and decorated cupcakes. What I got looked like they were slapped together, barely had decorations and were poorly detailed. They were also pretty bland tasting and didn't seem fresh so I wondered if they had just given me what had been sitting out in a display case all day.
When I went inside to pick up my order none of the staff greeted us. Or said a word to us the whole while we were there looking around. We picked up my box that was sitting out where anyone could take it since we had been waiting, wondering if we needed to say anything to anyone. But since the staff didn't acknowledge us we just went ahead and took it since I had paid online. No one said a word about that either. So it's a little concerning that anyone could have left with an order I paid for.
I'd like to chalk this up to it being a busy season and the staff being overwhelmed, but I can't say with their prices that I'd risk being so...
Read moreI’ve been OBSESSED with Bubblecake every since I was a student at Virginia Tech. My friends and I would go to their former location in Christiansburg, get half a dozen different cupcakes and do our own cupcake tasting. All of their flavors are so unique and beyond tasty. Some of my favorites are the Tiffany, Cookie Dough, Snickers, and the Drunk & Pumpkin for fall . Not too sugary and the cake is always so moist, even after a few days. I also feel like they have a good icing to cake ratio and love that that offer babycakes if you’re not up for a huge cupcake. I live in DC now and even surrounded by Georgetown Cupcake, Baked and Wired, Sprinkles, and the Sweet Lobby, these are to this day, still my favorite cupcakes. I had to unfollow them on Instagram just because it made me so sad I can’t have these on a regular basis anymore. However, I’ll always make a stop by if I’m visiting my friend in Roanoke or in town for a VT football game. Their shop has such a cute ambiance and the staff is so helpful and friendly. They have expanded their menu with other baked goods like cookies, pies, and cheesecakes, but the cupcakes hold a special place...
