Edit: I've stopped going here because homeless folks have made it feel unsafe. I feel for them, but I don't want to take my kid to a playground where someone is actively camping out and harassing me for money. Had one of them curse me out in front of my boy. There are times when clothing and trash and strewn about, and paraphernalia is just lying in the open. I've reached out to parks and rec in the past, but there's only so much they can do, and I doubt the police want to patrol through there.
The playground itself is great for toddlers 2+, which is rare in Roanoke for outdoor playgrounds. Just be sure to bring your stroller as parking is not close like other...

Read moreIt has grass, a playground, primitive bathroom and picnic facilities, and a shady spot under some dense pines. Definitely one of Roanoke's "also ran" parks, which is why I like it -- no sportsball games, few screaming children... it would probably be eerily quiet if it wasn't framed by the greenway on one side and railroad tracks on the other. 3 stars because the road to/through it is one-way and it only has about 12 parking spaces, so if you're unlucky it can be an almost 10-minute loop from the exit back to...
