Sweet Donkey!! Saw great reviews the night before and decided this would be the spot before our morning drive [today]. Really glad we made that choice!

They seem to make a lot of their syrups in-house, as well as their baked goods. We tried the lavender latte and the peanut butter cup latte; holy s**t they were both so delicious. Nice, strong lavender flavor was more than we expected but undeniably good if you love that floral flavor! The peanut butter cup was just that — a freaking peanut butter cup with caffeine; if I were local I’d find it hard to not get that every single morning.

I also got a cortado, as it’s my preferred method of caffeination, and was pleased with a sweet milky heart greeting me to my morning espresso. It went down a lot less bitter than most cortados I’m used to, which I won’t complain about but love it bitter.

I opted for the lemon blueberry muffin, finding it generally a great idea to go with baked goods made in-house (Sweet Donkey Bakery) from coffee shops. Sure enough I wasn’t disappointed after tearing at it like a vulture, but that was almost guaranteed to happen.

Everything was fairly priced, except for the socks that were an extra souvenir splurge — the staff helping me at the cash register sort of warned me about the price so it was absolutely my choice and nothing that should cause bad remarks (and they’re cute...

I would love to personally thank Dustin for helping me fulfill a special request that turned an ordinary day into one to remember for years to come. Living in Maine and my girlfriend living and working in Roanoke, it's difficult to always be able to do the little things for one another when she may just need a pick me up. As a nurse she works long hours, many times without a break, and I simply wanted to show my appreciation of her by delivering a special cup of her favorite drink with a messege to tell her I cared. When I messeged Sweet Donkey and asked if they would grant me my wish, Dustin not only agreed but personally took it upon herself to deliver it to my girlfriend who was overwhelmed to say the least. It is great people like Dustin and local businesses such as Sweet Donkey Coffee who care about their community around them and that elevate themselves above the rest by showing how important it is to help people who help others. We will recommend this establishment for our lifetime based on this 1 very generous and kind fulfillment of a request that has brought me and my girlfriend closer together even though we are 1000 miles apart. If you want outstanding customer service and superior quality beverages, then look no further than Sweet Donkey...

The coffee was great, Im wearin more than I got to drink. As soon as we walked in, we loved the place. However usually when you walk in a coffe shop someone atleast says "good morning" or, Hello.... it was an akward silence. Being as this was our first time I REALLY liked that all taxes are included. With that being said, we had coffee to-go. We had to add our cream & sugar. which could take some time if you are in a hurry. the WHOLE time on my walk to my car, coffee dripping down my work outfit. (got the stain to proove it) I thought for sure i did not have my lid on tight enough... WRONG, they dont stay on! My car was covered in coffee as i tried to hold the lid down, enjoy my coffee with no success other than wearing it...EPIC FAIL. I thought i may have got a dud cup.. NO, my boyfriend also got coffee ALL over his hand, shoes and pants. He however lost his patience and threw his cup out before we left. Please fix your to-go cup issue & we will gladly be back. Sweet Donkey should atleast give folks, OBVIOUSLY dressed for work a heads up.. Your lids dont stay on... &...

The Sweet Donkey Coffee shop is a cute coffee shop with a decently wide menu and plenty of seating. As this looks like it used to be a residential home, most of the seating is separated as if it were separate living rooms, complete with 2 rooms upstairs that can be reserved for meetings or study groups etc. There is even a section of games that can be borrowed. I tried the Flannel which was an elaborate take on a dirty Chai (I don't remember all of the flavors). It was good as well as an interesting change. It is a seasonal flavor but it could (probably) be crafted all year long. The service was great. And we will definitely return. There was also a selection of baked items that we didn't try but plan to next time. As this is a bigger coffee shop and seems a little busy, this isn't somewhere I would go to work on homework or anything that needed a lot of focus but definitely would come here on a coffee date or to hang out with friends. (I'm sure many people do homework etc here, just noting the distraction level for those like me who are easily distracted)

Came here by recommendation and we are hooked! It’s not easy to get good coffee in Roanoke and this place satisfied our rich deep strong coffee demands. Situated in an unassuming house, this local place is very popular with the college kids, hip crowd, artsy folks, young parents, the intelligentsia, and some cuties you won’t see anywhere else. Another plus is that your fur babies are welcomed here! We brought our pommie and he was lapping up all the attention he got! Also here you’ll find pastry specials and soup-of-the-day that was simply DIVINE. The cute interior is matched by the lovely staff and omnipresent coffee machine churning out one great espresso after another. Check out the coffee specials they have going seasonally. I had the eggnog latte and it was magnificent! We can’t wait to go back to get a coffee for the road on our way back to DC.
