We frequent this place. The crawfish and shrimp boil are amazing. I do want to address the service tonight. The person taking the order seemed to be new, and I used the online menu from your website to try and show her what we wanted. She kept saying “okay a 5 piece shrimp?” And I kept showing her the online menu, saying “no, this” (which was the shell-on 1 lb shrimp plate with potato and corn). Finally, a nice lady who I would assume was a manager, came to her aid. I also ordered a fried special, and a catfish plate. I got the catfish plate and the fish plate mixed up so when it came to the table I inquired about it. Instead of kindly explaining it to me, the lady who took my order (who was gathered around chatting with a few other staff) interrupted me saying “that’s why I was trying to explain it to you over there”… I wasn’t upset or mad, but her response was kind of rude. I told her “oh okay! No biggie. I got them mixed up” and she gave me smart alec look and as I turned around to walk back to the table I literally could hear her mouthing about me. In addition to this, several of the staff members were in the kitchen with no hair nets or hats. One of which had braids dragging the counter top. This is not something we typically see here. Aside the rudeness we experienced today, the catfish was yellow. Now, I can’t tell you much about much, but my father harvested catfish for a well known Catfish chain- and I can tell you that Catfish should not smell like swamp, and it should not be yellow. This catfish was both yellow and smelled like poorly cleaned catfish. I’m sure this was a fluke but this entire meal ended up thrown away because our daughter ended up in the bathroom puking from the taste. The only reason I didn’t take her fish back to the front is because I already didn’t appreciate the response I received when I was asking about the meal the first time. We love Tejun! We love the staff. We frequent this establishment and spend a healthy amount of money on our food - Nearly $70 for three of us tonight. I would expect service be better, staff be better trained on online menu because it looks nothing like the local one, and hair be covered when people are working in the kitchen. We were sorely disappointed. Of course we will come back- because we are Louisiana border folks and this is one of the closest things to Louisiana crawfish and shrimp.

Tejun Cajun Food Truck in Mexia: I am in Austin at the physical therapy shop exercising my injured Achilles tendon. I was talking with the lab tech about the weekend. We would be heading towards Waco and east to Mexia to help the MIL. He asked if I like Cajun food and if I had been to Tejun Cajun in Robinson. I told him I lived in Louisiana and all of my ex Cajun girlfriend's mamas used to cook for me! I wasn't sure where Robinson was. He said Tejun Cajun was very good. Heading north on I-35, just south of Waco, I mentioned the story to the family. There was the exit to the restaurant! The lady said that was the restaurant that has a mobile truck in Mexia (boondocks). We arrived in Mexia and my MIL asked the lady to drive a mile to of all places Tejun Cajun. That was weird cool. We had food from this place pre-COVID and I didn't remember much about meal. This is a six degrees of separation story for sure. Since the lady and MIL are not so big on seafood, we ordered only for myself and the Yute. We had a peeled shrimp plate with corn, potato and sausage. We also had double lobster tail with sides. The shrimp came with a warm cocktail sauce that I think was made with bbq sauce. The "lobsta" came with a melted creamy butter. The potato and corn each were in their to-go tray with some fluid. Bottom line, the meal was very good. I was surprised. It was Texas-Cajun authentic, just enough heat, but not covered in cayenne. I liked the small twist on flavors. We devoured the meal. Every bite was delicious. Oh, the food truck was big and they had another cooled? storage truck. Apparently, the food truck was in Mexia for three days, then moves to another small town, and so on. Very clever marketing strategy. We now have a restaurant to hit when we drive through Waco (we used to stop at the closed Luby's). The workers in the truck were very friendly. I told them an abbreviated version of this story and the lady was smiled and didn't rush me. BTW, when we arrived, seven people were in line and after we ordered there were another six. Our food took a few more minutes than everyone else as I suppose the lobster were cooked on order. We will go back. Nice restaurant. Update: 5/13/2024 Stopped by Robinson location. Fun place, reminds me a crawfish place in Lafayette. Had some gumbo and a shrimp pop boy. They were good.

This visit occurred on a Saturday evening. The large parking lot was pretty full, but we found a spot easily. There was a line out the door, but it moved quickly. Everyone orders at a central counter. You are buzzed when your order is ready, and you pick it up at the same counter area. Tea and fountain drinks are off to the side. The people who took our order were friendly and helpful, offering up a bucket of ice for the three bottled beers we ordered. Tejun has numerous food offerings and specials. I had a small catfish plate and three pounds of crawfish. My wife had the peeled ultimate combo consisting of crawfish, boiled shrimp, crab, potato, and corn. She thought she ordered a smaller combo that didn't include the crab, but I was happy to take it! Our food was ready pretty quickly. I was pretty disappointed, as my catfish was very crispy on the outside, but the actual fish on the inside was soft and a bit mushy. The crawfish were small to medium in size and had little to no seasoning and were a bit bland. The crab and its butter sauce were good. We had enough food leftover for a small to-go box. The order totaled $102.49. Overall, this experience was OK: a wide variety of food options were available, the speed of service was qood, the food portions were good, but the catfish wasn't too good and the other seafood items were bland. Nothing would make me hurry back, but it was good enough to go back.

5.30.24 So having been here multiple times, past 2 times I noticed the half pound shrimp lunch special, the shrimp was dirty (having the vein on the backside). Despite not really wanting to go back, my coworker really wanted to go so I agreed. Coworker 1st called to ask if the potato and corn could be substituted for something different. The guy said yes they could except for the boiled egg because the egg would be of lesser value. Getting to the restaurant, I asked if I could get 2 eggs rather than 1, making it equal value. I was told no and asked the lady if she could ask the mgr. I suppose the mgr came over to assist and I was told the same which didn't make much sense to my coworker and I since 2 eggs would only be 1 cent over the price of the other sides they offer. Thinking he was working the register to make this happen for me, to get 2 eggs and a coleslaw rather than the potato and corn, he finally said ok, your total will be $12.41 rather than the $10.81 I normally pay, for the lunch special. I told them nevermind, just to give me the 2 servings of coleslaw (substituted) for the potato and corn. She said ok, that'll be $12.41. Wanting to confirm she had gotten my order correct, I asked if that was for substituting the coleslaw for the potato and corn? She said yes. Long story short....I end up having to pay for 2 sides after requesting my 2 sides to be substituted for something different but they would throw in a free tea. Sure you're going to throw in a free tea because you just charged me for a lunch special and 2 sides rather than replacing the potato with coleslaw and replacing the corn on cob with a second side of coleslaw. You may have thought that I didn't see what had happened but I did!! I went ahead and paid the the $12.41 rather than the $10.81 that I generally pay because I made the trip out there on account my coworker and I being on speaker phone was told the potato and corn COULD be substituted and for another, I couldn't afford to eat the potato and corn (for health reasons) and last but not least, I wasn't going to inconvenience the people in line behind me any longer than they already had been. But unfortunately, I AND my coworker both decided we won't be back. He and I weren't happy with the service I had gotten and we both weren't happy with the HEAVY seasoning they had put on our orders.. after all, there's plenty of extra seasoning on the tables, why drown the shrimp in butter and seasoning like that?? So $12.41 paid to go elsewhere for our seafood and not have to worry about any of this happening again. Highly disappointed given that there's bible scriptures on every corner of the tables which we enjoyed looking up on our phones to read. Can't do the...

Good. Lord.

We had passed their food truck in Hillsboro (where we live) a few times. Finding out they have restaurants spread out around the area, the Robinson location was the closest one. Still a good 40 miles away. Having recently moved to the area, a rare free Saturday night, we were excited to try something new.

Let’s start with the GOOD.

Pulling up, it’s a very attractive layout. Decorated as you’d expect, complete with a marsh pond in the back, where seating is available. Plenty of seating inside, and a clean atmosphere.

The familiar smells of a traditional Cajun boil hits you in the parking lot, and wafts through the air, even more intense upon entering. So far, all good signs.

The staff taking our order was very patient. Especially considering we were first-timers. Helping us with our selection.

It’s a walk-up-and-order type of place. Kinda unexpected, considering the prices. We figured it was going to be more casual dining experience.

Now, the BAD

The customer service absolutely sucks here. Just picking up our food. ($52 for 2 - important note), we brought it to the table, drinks in hand and realized we were shorted on our order, basically missing half of everything. No problem. It happens. I walked back up, informed them of their mistake. Wife goes to restroom.

After going back and forth with the staff, almost not believing that they screwed up, I wait for the remainder of our food.

Another person comes up. Wrong order. Then another, not receiving everything they ordered. No less than 5 people, bringing back their food, due to messed up orders.

As one employee hands me the box, my wife comes up to the counter.

They had bussed our table. Thrown away food that hadn’t been touched. And our drinks, nary a sip taken. Side orders, napkins etc.

At this point, I’d had enough. I grabbed what I had left, and at first was going to request they start over. They squabbled about it so hard, I couldn’t help myself:

“Just refund our f$#*!%g order, and we’ll be on our way. This is bull$#!+.”

Obviously ruffling feathers, the manager proceeded to “refund” our order - for $46 total.

Which means it COST US $6 NOT to eat there! 😠

I realize they get good reviews. And maybe their food is absolutely out of this world. But, I’ll never know. It was my first - and last - visit to any of their locations. I can do a crab/lobster boil in our backyard. ...
