A's Kitchen — Restaurant in Rock Falls

I recently made a call to do a pick up order at this location (A's Kitchen Rock Falls), upon calling I was told by a man that if my order was too big it wouldn't qualify for a pick up. I informed that I was only ordering two meals and there was still confusion about placing an order for pick up. The phone was handed to woman and they sated I could make an order for pick up that's two meals. I asked for a Monte Cristo which comes with fries. I asked if I could substitute the fries with cheese curds and the woman's response was it'll be $2 more I said that's not a problem, she then stated she was actually unsure of the cost and went to ask how much it would be. She came back to the phone and informed me the substitute was not possible to be made. I told them I'd take my business elsewhere. This review isn't based on the food, but rather the service I received on the phone. No one was sure of what could be done and there were many complications included with simple questions. Waitress acted as if we were a distraction from her life and we were an inconvenience to wait on.

Stains on the ceiling, bathroom a disaster.

Lemon chicken had some type of lumpy gravy that was supposed to be a lemon sauce but seemed to be a very salty thick cream with lumps of flour in it. Chicken was hard and dry - maybe this is why it was soaking in fatty gravy. Rice was actually hard and very salty. Everything seems to be bathed in salt first. 🤮

Do yourself a favor and move on down the line to a restaurant that cares about you as a customer.

I ordered a chicken fried steak and it came from the kitchen in just minutes. I was wondering why so many items were labeled homemade. Apparently they don’t know what that word means. Thus was an over fried piece of thin chicken, not beef and very hard. When I showed the waitress she informed me, “honey I know it is chicken that is what you ordered!” I repeated the words chicken fried Steak. She finally caught on and once again it was honey I don’t make the menu. None of their dinners are homemade and their cook can’t cook. Avoid the place unless you are ordering breakfast. I asked the waitress upon leaving if she had shared our complaints with the cook and she said she still didn’t understand how a chicken fried steak wasn’t made out of chicken.
