We made our way here excited to experience real, fresh, delicious Italian food. Instantly walking up there's a nice outdoor vibe, not overly fancy, but very pleasant with outdoor lights, plenty of shaded area, plants for decor, and seating for various group sizes. The inside is also a fresh and modern decor. You're instantly greeted to be seated inside or out. I noticed right away their branding, pasta to cook at home and sauces for sale. The pasta is near white, which you know means it's real! Upon being seated, we looked over the menu and couldn't decide what to try (note: there is a lot of Italian lingo on the menu). Luckily, with the help of our very friendly and sweet waitress, she was able to give us her recommendations and explain some of the other options to us. We decided to go all out and get started with bread service and the cheese sticks (note: some names of items were more Italian-I'm giving you the English cliff note version). That bread is AMAZING!!!! So fresh and delicious!! I loved the airy texture and simple but yet delicious flavor of the simplicity of fresh ingredients and love. The flake salt on top just hit the nail on the head. As for the cheese sticks, the breading was a softer texture but crispy from the cook. They were very large in size with a fresh cheese inside. Hot and delicious. The theme to this review is definitely how much you can taste the freshness and overall care and dedication this chef has to their food. It comes served with a side of marinara. There were 6 sticks total (our picture was a little late). We ended up choosing a pepperoni pizza (just plain style not the ezzo on the menu with spice and honey-my husband let me have my way), the fiama Marla bolognese, & the kids marinara spaghetti. The pizza was everything and more! Thin but fluffy crust, tons of flavor, cheese was the perfect ratio with a good amount of pepperoni too. It is not overly sauced, which we both enjoyed. Again, super fresh, perfect consistency on the crust and delectable flavor! My son (pickiest eater alive-meaning we had to flip the spaghetti over so that it hid the Parmesan Romano) LOVED his spaghetti! The noodles were more al dente than I cook them, but yet it tasted perfect! Both the hubs and I said we'd totally get the spaghetti with meatballs on our next visit. Now, as for the bolognese, we actually did not care for this one. It had a different, almost bitter taste we couldn't identify. The noodles in it though, so fresh and cooked perfectly!!! Plus, they were thick and delicious like no where else in St. Louis. All the portions were large, even the kids! They are also sauced in the best way, not overly sauced. I think what we figured out was that this place doesn't have to over compensate for anything because they use quality ingredients that they let shine in their cooking-it's that freshness and care that they are able to share the story of real Italian food! We loved that! It definitely shines at Katie's! Our waitress did a great job to come back and check in with us about flavors and any needs we might have-even with two young kids with us, she acknowledged them too. To our surprise when we advised at the boxing stage that we just didn't care for the bolognese, she had her manager come out and he apologized, even though it was our taste we made clear that was probably the issue, not them. In the end, he still comped that plate-not at all necessary, but overly gracious and it really shows of how much their service matters to them. That in itself rates high with us! You just don't find that kind of hospitality anywhere now days. We really felt like we were part of a family coming here to eat. In addition they have a ton of Italian desserts we saved for the next trip, as well as a great wine list and Coke products for drinks. The restrooms were clean and everything was well kept. We couldn't be happier with our experience, the food, the service, our wonderful waitress, the atmosphere, all of it! We even purchased pasta to make at home and sauce!...
Read moreWe ate here for my 30th birthday recently at the Chesterfield location and let me tell you, it was delicious. We arrived at 6:50 and had a reservation for 7. We're seated promptly on a nice outside patio, the tables we spaced nicely apart and I don't remember if the servers wore mask or not. Regardless I felt decently comfortable I wasn't going to get covid. The patio could use some sort of ventilation like some fans or something, but it was in the shade and wasn't uncomfortable.
My wife and her sister and husband all chose to order ala carte while I opted for the Pizza tasting menu since it was my birthday. 35$ for the tasting menu was an incredible deal. I also got the wine pairing for 25$ so 60$ for a four course food pairing with 4 glasses of wine. Super deal.
To begin, my wife ordered their "famous fried artichoke" as appetizer, which were good. However I was slightly underwhelmed with the ricotta/cream/white emulsion they rested on which was kind of bland and unappetizing the artichokes themselves were very good and the dish was by no means bad. My first dish was the ricotta stuffed squash blossoms fried in tempura batter and served with an amazing tomato sauce. The squash blossoms were good but again, not amazing. The sauce and bread they were served with more then made up for it though. Again not bad by a long stretch, just good, not amazing. Then the drinks arrived. My brother in law had a watermelon juice with vodka and lime concoction which was amazing. I could have drank gallons, and my wife's margarita was herbaceous and refreshing. She also had some peach Paloma which was the drink of the night for sure.
Next came my watermelon salad which had baetje farms goat cheese, blueberries, fennel, mint, and parsley. It was freaking amazing! The best dish of the night. We all agreed. My sister in law went home and recreated it. We then all got a different pizza
Each pizza was better then the last. Mine was speck and peaches with arugula and some goat cheese, my wife had coppa and fig, the sister in law had marinated Bluetooth mushrooms and crispy onions, and her husband had roasted chicken and garlic. The crust was chewy and crunchy and flavorful, the toppings were fresh and clearly well thought out. Also I believe everything is as locally sources and seasonal as possible which always makes it better. It was impossible to say which was best. They were all incredible. We each liked our own and there was way more then enough to bring home a half pizza each.
Then finally I had a peach lemon coconut Panna Cota which was good. Some sort of Moscato, Romantica I believe and it was great. I'm not a wine guy, but I wanted to splurge so I can't comment on the pairings as thoroughly as I'd like but they were good.
All in all, the meal cost 190$ for four people with an appetizer, three cocktails, and one wine pairing and chefs tasting. Which seems steep but we could have easily spent 50$ on an app, shared a pizza and had two cocktails and had a great date night for two. For the quality and the experience it was well worth and we will...
Read moreWe made our first, but not last visit Sunday for supper. The barman who waited on use was efficient and pleasant. The pizza and salad were good and met our expectations. Two problems, minor and major. The salad and pizza arrived at the same time. I expect cold then hot delivery. Next time we’ll be more specific. They charge à la carte when purchasing a “Build your own” pizza. No prices for this are shown on the menu. There is a charge for cheese, (How can a base pizza BE a pizza without cheese?). And as expected for additional toppings. This is where the situation became contentious. We ordered a one-half sausage and one-half pepperoni but were charged the full price for both. We the manager was asked why; he replied that you receive to “full amount” of toppings on each half as you would on a no half and half pizza. This is clearly a lie. Just a look at the pics right on their web page indicates that the amount is half as much. I fully expected the manager to make at least an effort to satisfy me and he did not, I was insulted. Please be aware when ordering items not on the menu to get all the pricing up front.
Having said all this, the service and food is good enough to return, just ask questions first.
I received a prompt and complete response from management acknowledging the need for retraining. This is proper. Changed my...
