I moved to Rock Island 2 months ago meaning I had to find a new favorite Chinese Restaurant near me. I tried a few nearby and was getting worried because the I found were at most, mediocre. Then one day I stopped here to get some Egg Drop Soup for my sick boyfriend.I love Egg Drop Soup when I am ill so I figured he would too, but luckily for me, that was not his thing so I was able to consume it. It was spectacular. I returned to grab some dinner about a week or so later so I could see if the meals were as good as the soup. This time, I came home with Szechuan Shrimp. That is an old favorite but ever since the old Dragon House in Davenport closed, I had yet to find a place that could compare to their version. Until now! I devoured the meal entirely which is very unusual but I ate every bite as my other half watched in amazement at how food could send his girlfriend into such euphoria. Then, our roommate and I headed up to the place again the other night. We each purchased a meal, soup and some fired wontons. We took it home and another homer with the food. Oriental express has now officially become my go-to for Chinese cuisine. The other places in the neighborhood are not horrible, it is just that they cannot match the food perfection nor are they nearly as friendly as the beautiful girl who has waited on me every time. She is amazing herself. I do not know what the plans are for the dining room here. It is hidden by plastic tarps hanging and that does give the place a very odd "ambiance". I hope that is not a permanent look for them but even if it is, I will still get my Chinese cravings satisfied here. I recommend you...
Read moreI love this place. It's way out of my way, but I'll make the drive any day! The combination egg foo young is really satisfying, lots of meat and veggies, and the gravy is the best one I've ever had. It's a sauce, not a thick, clumpy gravy. Also, the General Tsao's Chicken is just enough spice and not overcooked like some places. Other notables: egg rolls, dumplings (pot stickers), lo mein, and egg wonton soup. Honestly, you can't go wrong here. It's a lot like the actual Chinese food restaurants that used to be in the area, different and more homemade tasting, not like some of the fast food Chinese food places all over. Try it!! And, since they don't have things pre-made and then just heat it up when you order, they are OK with substitutions and...
Read moreOrdered meals for three plus appetizers. Very disappointed with the entire order. The food was loaded with salt and soy sauce. The House Lo Mein was nasty and old tasting. The Lemon Chicken had NO lemon sauce, Deep Fried Cashew Chicken was hard and to salty to eat. The fried rice to dry to eat. The wanton soup should have been labled celery soup because it was loaded with it. The meal was a flop and the most expensive bag of trash at 52.00....
