Starseed Bakery — Restaurant in Rockaway

Had a very disappointing experience at this bakery. I ordered a specialty cake for my son’s birthday and spoke with the owner about the cake and she said that they would create the cake that I had asked for including 2 dimensional characters on the sides. When I went to pick up the cake the day before the party, the cake that was actually made looked nothing like the cake I requested. There were no characters on the sides of the cake and the color of the cake was completely different. The writing on the cake was sloppy and wasn’t even written in capital letters. When I discussed this with the owner, she had no real explanation as to why she created a cake which did not look at all like the cake I requested. She said that the cake was still “delicious” and she just couldn’t fit the characters on the sides of the cake. I asked her as to why she didn’t let me know regarding this and once again she couldn’t explain the reason. To make matters worse, my sons birthday was the very next day which left us with no other options of getting the cake that we ordered. The owner would not even negotiate on the discount when she clearly did not do the job that she promised . At $110 a cake, this is completely unacceptable. I still cannot believe how terrible the whole experience was. Will never order nor buy their products again. There are many other bakeries where people actually have integrity and do what they said they would especially when they are charging...

Cannot say enough good things about this place! I happened to find this little bakery by chance and I am so glad I did! My son has multiple food allergies and is also a picky eater! It has been so difficult finding safe foods that taste good and offer enough variety to make you feel like you aren't being restricted. The owner is VERY kind. She goes out of her way to go over every ingredient and has even made special adjustments to her recipes to accommodate my son's diet. I have tried a few items from her menu and enjoyed them all very much. You dont get the nasty aftertaste from any of her gluten free items like you do with some store bought brands. Everything is fresh, tastes great and is reasonably priced. Her vegan italian loaf is yummy and my son can actually eat bread! We also really enjoyed the vegan mixed berry pie and the vegan chocolate avocado pie. Definitely coming back for more. Thank you so much for providing an amazing variety of delicious treats while keeping all our allergens...

I went into Starseed for the first time yesterday. I’m not truly gluten intolerant but when I find alternatives to it - that’s my preference. I knew they would have a larger assortment of goods over a regular store - so it was worth the drive to check it out.

It was love at first glance - Challah bread -the absolute best for making French Toast. Then my eyes found the chocolate cupcakes -without sugar (also my preference) so I grabbed a package of two. And who could resist chocolate chip cookies - also sugar free? So far I’ve sampled the cupcakes - delicious and made the long-awaited healthy French Toast - also amazing. Later today I will share the guilt-free cookies with my grand babies - that will be the true test!
