Tried this place after my beautiful lady had wanted to for some time! It looked open and inviting with modern, yet vintage look. The chairs were flimsy though and slid uncomfortably throughout the visit. They can use some stoppers. The server was nice and welcoming and the menu was not too big. I did get sticker shock though. A basic cheese burger is $10 and goes up from there. Most were $13-15...for a burger...Well, so be it. We each got a specialty burger. We also ordered one beer to go with it, as I was driving and got a soft drink.
The burgers came and I began to try the seasoned fries. Crispy, yet not over cooked. Seasoning was done well and not too starchy. Very good. The tots were good too, but were more starchy and I didn't notice any bacon in them. I could not try my burger at first because there was a long blond or grey hair wrapped around the knife in the burger keeping it together. I sent it back and was told they would make a new one from scratch...when it came out in two minutes, I knew that it was the same one. The hair was on the bun, so I assume they just switched the bun. No big deal, but I was told one thing and another happened.
The burger was good, better than Lucky 7 in Beloit by far, but still just a burger. Again, for the price, I expected a bigger, more flavorful burger. Still, it was pretty good and did fill me up.
The server said he would take care of the burger without any prompting, but then came and said "I'm going to leave. She will take over" and left. It happens, but it was rather abrupt. The new server did not do much as we were already eating at this point.
As we were leaving, we got the wrong check from the new server. She left and got us the correct one. Our check did not have any discount promised by the original server. So we had to wait for that correction. She was pleasant and patient, but clearly was not communicated with by the original server. When I got the bill, I was shocked even further that the one beer we ordered, Bell's Hop Slam, was $9 for a pint! THAT is insane!
Overall, well done and tasty. Positive staff, but simple errors that should be caught fell through the cracks. That hair should have NEVER reached the table. It was not a hidden one. And the lack of communication with the transition made us feel like a number instead of a guest. The food was worth trying again, but at this price point, there are better places to go. We like to go get a beer and lunch on the weekends and don't think this can be the place to go. Not at $9/beer and $13/burger. We can to to Sho Gun for a similar price point. Guess I will just have to stick with my grill for a great burger! Minus one star for the hair and another for the...
Read moreI wish you could do two different ratings, one for the food and one for the service. The food was absolutely phenomenal. I had cheese curds for an appetizer, Bacon Mac n Cheese burger with Parmesan tater tots for the meal, and one of the best desserts Iâve ever had being their salted caramel brownie with vanilla bean ice cream. All of it was so so so good.
What really soured our experience was the service. Iâd understand if it was packed or even slightly busy but it wasnât. We sat at the bar in front of the TV to watch playoff football and eat. Sat there for 10 minutes before even being acknowledged by the bartender. My wife and I were 2 of the 5 people at the bar and there were only 3 or 4 occupied tables in the restaurantâ so again, they werenât busy.
After finally taking our order we were treated with such disrespect and constant attitude from the bartender Hannah. We werenât the only ones either. A nice older couple next to us were constantly waiting for her to even look in their direction. They were waiting to pay their bill for at least 10 minutes until they finally said excuse me maâam a couple of times and asked for their bill until she finally looked over with a death glare towards this couple and said âMy names Hannah by the wayâ in such a disgusting and condescending tone. I felt so bad for this couple.
It gets betterâŠ.
While eating our food and watching the game on the tv we intentionally sat in front of, Hannah comes up to the TV and begins to change the channel. I said oh hey I was watching that? And she said that somebody else requested a different channel. I nicely tried to explain that we specifically sat at the bar in front of this TV to watch this game only. She didnât care and said that she needed to change it because someone else wants to watch something else. I couldnât believe the way we were being talked to. So uncomfortable and rude.
I donât think Iâve ever even wrote a google review (edit: this was my third) but thatâs how bad this service was. I strongly advise this establishment to remove this person from their staff or they will continue to...
Read moreThis place was awesome.... We came here thanks to a friend's suggestion about a new place to try. We are very happy we listened. We arrived about 7pm on a Monday night. There was only a few tables with people, so not overly busy. We were immediately greeted with smiles and hellos. Then sat and told the daily drink and food specials which I always like so we don't have to ask! I have to admit they have a pretty impressive craft beer menu and mixed drink menu. Drinks were ordered, now bring on the food! We decided to try one of everything. For starters we had a few different appetizers. We tried the portabella mushroom cap battered in tempura, we had the artichoke heart dip, and the bacon goat cheese fries. Yum, Yum, and Yum is all we all had to say. So now we decided to order our meals! I had the amazing broccoli cheddar mac, and all the rest of our group all had the burgers and parmesan cheese dusted tator tots. All burgers cooked perfectly, plated beautifully, and tasted fresh. With a pretzel style brioche bun. Kudos to the chef on this day. This place should be very busy daily once the word gets out. The food is crafty. The style is modern and hipster! The place is very clean. The price is a little above average. However the most important information is that it's worth every penny! Make sure to visit this new restaurant so the next time I visit Rockford, IL I can come back here again!
P.S. Don't forget to try the...
