La Michoacana Mexican Creamery- On Kishwaukee — Restaurant in Rockford Township

You want some authentic hand made ice cream? This is the place to go. The store doesn't appear like too much of a place, at first glance, but what you find inside is really pretty cool. I have to admit, though, upon entering the store, I realized my Spanish isn't what it needs to be. Almost the entire menu board is in Spanish! Don't let that scare you off. The staff realized my obvious ignorance of the language and immediately jumped in to keep me from feeling like a total dope. The young man that helped us was very friendly and patient with us as he explained everything about the store, offered us samples of the ice cream and helped us with our picks. Gave this place three stars because of the customer service. I don't see anything artesianal from this ice cream. You can tell some of the ice creams have dyes from the very bright colors. Their churros are not homemade, nor are there waffle cones, which was disappointing. I didn't care for their flavors of ice cream. They had a hint of flavor and were too sweet. Obviously, I know ice cream has a lot of sugar, but that's all you can taste, no flavor... it was a bummer, and I had high hopes. I tried their corn in a cup, it was meh... it had a little too much water. Hope they ramp up their flavors...
