2023 EDIT: Maki is still fantastic! The Shoyu Ramen is so flavorful, the sushi is fresh and delicious, and service is still top notch. 2021 EDIT: Maki is still an amazing place to eat! I went just the other day and got a hot bowl of udon and some sushi. The broth was amazing, the sushi was fresh, and my friend said the curry rice was the best she's had since going to Japan. Even the miso soup was fantastic. Service was great, prices were reasonable, and Maki remains my favorite place in Rockville to get sushi! I'll be back again and again. 2018 review: I was really in the mood for sushi, and I was in rockville! I decided to try out Maki because it had great reviews. I was not disappointed! The restaurant itself was small, but clean and cozy. The lunch menu prices were Amazingly good, but I missed lunch by about 15 minutes, so I was stuck with the just pretty good dinner prices. I wish the roll selection had been a little larger (let's be real I wanted Alaska rolls and it was the one thing they didn't have) but I settled for salmon and avocado rolls along with a pork bun. The menu offered a pretty good variety of Japanese staples, udon, tonkatsu, sushi, ramen, loads of good stuff. Everything was delicious! The quality was good, and I was impressed with how much of the roll was fish. The bun was okay, the flavor was good. I felt I got really good value for the prices and had a really nice lunch. I got totally into the drama they had playing on the tv. The waitresses were very attentive, constantly refreshing my water. I can't wait to go back and try some udon or rice bowls! I'm definitely going to add this place to my usual haunts.

My husband and I haven’t gotten to try much sushi since we moved here in July. This place came highly recommended by some of our dear friends and it didn’t disappoint! Well this place is small it feels very cozy and I just love the ambience! While they do bring you a paper menu, you can scan a QR code and just order on your phone rather than waiting on the waitress to return. Super easy! We ordered quite a few different dishes and enjoyed them all! The first dish to arrive was the specialty role that involved tempura shrimp. It was described as being spicy, but wasn’t at all! It simply had great flavor which was perfect for me! Next time we return, I will get my own role so I don’t have to share with my husband. Lol Second to arrive war the dumplings. It looked as though they were steamed and then sat down in a hot pan to crisp up the bottom. I loved these two different textures and the flavor was even better! Next we received the bullGogi Bao buns. I felt that they were of a generous size. Sometimes I find the buns to be small but so puffy that you can’t fit much inside them. These gave a decent amount of meat and tasted perfect with the spicy mayo dipping sauce on the side! We ended up ordering a second round of these because my husband was so smitten! Lastly, we got our bowl of Ramen. I think we chose the miso broth and obviously the Ramen noodles, Bulgogi and extra corn. The flavor was great! My husband was definitely a fan of this as well! My husband somehow had room for dessert and went with the Moki. He was very pleased. I can’t wait to go back and get more of that sushi and the dumplings! I can’t wait!

The food and service is moderate. It’s definitely a busy place even after coming on a weekday night for dinner, and slightly overpriced at $16 for a bowl of ramen. The starters are even more expensive and are also average, like the takoyaki came only with 5 pieces and didn’t have much flavor inside the batter and barely much sauce on top. I enjoy how you can choose your soup base, protein, and add-ons which allows for more customization and they have several different protein options including unique ones such as bulgogi and chicken katsu. It was good that the chicken katsu came on the side with a separate japanese dipping sauce that I used alongside dipping it into the soup. The katsu was bland which makes sense since it was paired with the soup but also wasn't that crispy. In my opinion, all of the soups are on the saltier and very intense savory side, especially the spicy ones which are packed with spices. The spicy level was great for me in both the volcano and spicy miso ramen, but I feel like it was too much that it overwhelmed the base richness of the tonkotsu broth(which I should probably try next time). The shoyu tori was a chicken and soy based soup which was good but kind of salty. Personally, between the volcano and spicy miso I liked the spicy miso because of the umami from the miso paste, though both were pretty good. The portion sizes are pretty generous, but I wish there were more vegetable toppings like mushrooms.

My family of 5 went here for dinner on Sunday. It was packed and had to wait about 10 mins. The waiter was attentive and got us table as soon as possible. However he cleaned our table with dirty stinky rag and I instantly lost appetite. I walked to the counter since they were super busy and requested to be wiped again. They apologized and cleaned the table right away with spray and a paper towel this time. We ordered 2 sushi dishes- Philadelphia rolls and red dragon rolls and 4 bowls of ramen. Sushis were very fresh and delish. However in my opinion it was overpriced with only 6 small pieces for each dish.( $6 and $10.50). My husband and I ordered volcano soup base. It wasn't all that spicy for my taste and even for my Italian husband didn't think it was.. chicken katsu was very small and it was okay nothing special. His pork was very fatty and kimchi wasn't all that good either. (Lol.. I'm Korean so I know how kimchi should taste like). My son had miso soup base. It was very salty that you couldn't really taste the miso. Lastly, my sort of picky step daughter had Tonkasu base ramen.. maybe it was bad choice should have ordered vege base soup..Ithought she was just being picky but the soup really wasn't the best. It had very strong smell of pork broth...I know it is pork broth..just didn't taste right..( we eat a lot of pork at home and the broth but it's gotta be how they season it..) She only ate her chicken katsu and maybe two small bites of the noodles. So.... Not the best ramen I had.. I don't mind paying money for good food and good service. Overall I didn't think food wasn't all that great for what we paid for. We paid $89 including tips.( We barely got much service..water was never filled till we "raised" our hands to get their attentions and had to call to get service.. ) I just fell like we could have spent the money at...
