Excited about new Thai in Rockville. There are a lot of Thai restaurants in MoCo. The flavors here at Bangkok Garden make it higher on my list. Went here during their grand opening week. Based on the crowds, I can see that they're going to be successful in this Wintergreen Plaza location.

It's first come first served here. So, if you spot an open table, have someone in your group grab it so that you'll have seating. You queue up in line to order your food and then they bring it out to your table.

When I went at 6:30ish last night, the line to order was to the door. Took about 15-20 minutes to get through the line, but while in line, we checked the table availability and decided to get our food to go. Note that carryout is not any faster than dine-in. If you want it speedy, call ahead for pickup.

I think our wait for carryout was a bit longer than what will be the norm. Place was packed and there were lots of people ahead of us, but I think with the promo I had received, our order might have gotten missed in the kitchen. Still, staff was friendly and tried to speed things up for us.

We had our Thai iced tea and Thai Jasmine green tea while waiting. Tasty tea. The Thai Jasmine was very floral in taste.

Our carryout was packed well. We had the Khao Soy and the noodles are packed separately from the curry soup. Our Train fried rice with crispy pork belly made it home with the pork belly still a a bit crispy. Could probably have heated it in the air fryer to make it super crispy though. The drunken wings were a bit heavy on the sauce. Box looked a bit greasy, but who eats wings to be healthy?!

Khao Soy was tasty. The curry soup had a lot of flavor and there was a lot of chicken. The fried rice was okay. Not as much flavor in the rice as expected. Also not as much veggies as I had hoped for though. Added some of the curry soup to the fried rice and it was better. The drunken wings were good. I think I'd get them crispy in the air fryer if I order carryout again.

We did order dessert! Mango and sticky rice. I think they may want to go with a different packaging option though. Cause with the heated rice, the plastic melts. Would probably be better in a box similar to the hot foods.

Overall, a good meal. Price point is a bit high, but then again, Thai food in MoCo is expensive. Carryout for two of us before promo was about $50. Will I be...

Really bad experience. Sad, our group had high expectations but we fell flat on our faces waiting for good service.

What I ordered: Papaya Salad Meat on Skewers. They were out of it.

Never got anything.

Almost 30 minutes and Nada!

Here's my beef with them.

Never got any of the food I ordered. How in hell, can a business have so low quality control and poor customer service.

Wouldn't it been easier to just tell me they screwed up and forgot my order? Why have a client wait so long for "mai mee" (nothing in Thai).

Last, not even an apology. I was amazed on how bad customer service is at Bangkok Garden. RIDICULOUS!

Being fair, I was able to taste the fried pork that someone shared with me and it was delicious.

The rice, another person sharing a taste, was bland. As a Latino, our rice is full of flavor. Someone correct me please if the bland rice is normal for this type of cuisine since you can mix it with the sauces that are served separately. I think that makes up the missing flavor.

Price for my order and girlfriend was around 40 dollars But got a refund since I canceled my never-received order.

RETURN FACTOR:

No chance in this lifetime!!!🤬🤬🤬🤬

Why? They should have had the courtesy to come to the table and advise that they screwed up the order.

ALSO, another member of my group ordered Thai Tea and that too was screwed up. Had to ask what's going on with the order. FINALLY IT CAME after almost done with his food.

If these orders were complicated I would understand. But a papaya salad and Thai tea.....How hard can that be? Please, can someone shed light, does it take 4 Michelin Star Chef and a doctoral degree in food sciences to make any of these? Just in case, Epicurious has a papaya salad recipe. Maybe they didn't know how to make it. It only takes 15 minutes.

This is definitely one of those places that I will avoid like the Devil the Cross.

Two stars because the fried pork was delicious for me. For my Thai group, it was dry and not crispy enough. But that doesn't make up for the EXTREMELY POOR...

April 2021 update: Increased 1 star

Ordered a Southern Roll and Chicken Pad Thai online. Online ordering was easy to use. It does automatically assign 10% tip at checkout, but you can change that before paying. The carryout orders are behind the counter and a staff member hands them to you. All the staff are wearing masks.

The Southern Roll was pretty good, mainly a mild curry flavor. The accompanying cucumber sauce was sweet, sour, and a little spicy. The Chicken Pad Thai tasted good and wasn't too oily, but the flavor was rather light. Portion size has increased though and it was a decent size for the price.

Dec 2019 Original review: Came here for lunch and the place wasn't busy, a bit surprising considering the area and amount of activity in the parking lot. It's a small place with about 10 tables, most of them 2 people tables, so probably just as well it wasn't busy. Note that you order at the counter first, they give you a number, and then you seat yourself. The water, soda machine, sauces, napkins, sugar (no salt or pepper), and take out containers are on a separate counter to the side that you take from yourself. They give you chopsticks and utensils when they deliver food to your table.

We got the Pad Thai with chicken, Tom Yum Noodle with thin noodles, and Khao Mun Gai with crispy chicken. Note that on the takeout and handheld menus, they do not list whether a dish is spicy. If you want to know if a dish is spicy, ask or look at the menu screens behind the counter. The Tom Yum Noodle is spicy, but we didn't figure that out until later. All of the food was pretty good; the Pad Thai was a bit sweeter than other places and the crispy chicken was actually crispy. However, the portion sizes were too small for the price we paid. The prices should probably go down 25% to accurately reflect the portion sizes.

Service was fast and friendly. The place and bathrooms clean and dry.

Overall, may come again...
