Ambiance & Vibe Tucked into Woodley Gardens / Nelson Street, Neighbors Coffee strikes a sweet balance between cozy and lively. Light streams through the windows, there’s both indoor and outdoor seating, and the décor is warm without trying too hard. on weekend mornings apparently it gets a line. 

The folks running it clearly live in the neighborhood — there’s a friendly, familiar energy here, which makes “just grabbing a latte” feel more like running into neighbors (as the name suggests).

☕ What I Ordered / Tasted • Apple turnover – flaky, buttery layers, nicely baked. Not overly sweet, which I appreciated — the apple filling had good texture (not mushy) and a mild warmth of cinnamon. It paired really well with the latte to cut through richness. • S’mores latte – this was fun. Marshmallow + chocolate + graham (or the taste thereof) is always a bit of a tightrope; Neighbors leaned into the sweet side but didn’t overdo it. Could you taste the “smores vibe”? Yes. Aroma was comforting. I might have wished for slightly more roast edge to balance the sweetness—but as a treat, it hits. • Apple butter latte – this was more subtle. The apple butter flavor was gentle, warm, and comforting. I liked how it wasn’t cloying, and the milk was smooth. It felt like a more refined dessert-latte option rather than something over the top.

Service was friendly, attentive. The baristas seem to really care about the customer, which is always a plus.

They also have a nice rotation of pastry items, and the variety enhances the stop-in-for-coffee experience. 

Pricing is reasonable for what you get — specialty drinks, good pastries, clean space. Neighborhood shop energy...

As the owner of Barbers and Brew, I’ve had the unique privilege of watching Neighbors Coffee grow from its very first pour to the beautiful café it is today—and I couldn’t be more proud to call them a partner and a friend.

Spencer and Lulu, the incredible duo behind Neighbors Coffee, actually started their journey right inside our barbershop. Spencer would come in on Fridays and serve freshly roasted coffee to our customers, a passion project that quickly evolved into a full-fledged roastery and now, a stunning café nestled in the heart of Woodley Gardens. It’s been amazing to witness their growth from pop-ups and farmers’ markets to their own modern, elevated space that truly reflects their warmth, dedication, and passion for the craft.

Spencer and Lulu put deep intention into everything they do, from personally sourcing beans directly from farms in South America to roasting them right here in Rockville, Maryland. Was super excited to try this place, and will give it another shot in the future! I asked the woman working the register what I should order that would make me want to come back again and she said a regular vanilla latte (as a coffee snob had just ordered one and said it was the best ever). My husband and I both got one and honestly for $8 (we subbed for oat milk), it tasted like straight up oat milk (both of us agreed) and was not worth the price.

I like my regular latte from Manoushe (next door) a lot better! I’m interested in trying the other items on the menu but for the $$ and based on my first latte there, I am not rushing back.

I LOVE that they are open so early on the weekend, especially with two little kids and the park nearby. The drinks look really pretty, and the place felt high energy, but the latte I ordered would not make me come back as much my own desire to try something else down the road. Will probably be back, just not soon!

Update 9/23 - while I LOVE and respect the response I got so much, from the owner..Two separate sets of friends went to the shop and ordered lattes and felt the same way, that they tasted like milk (the got regular milk). Maybe something to be reviewed my the owner because we all agree it’s not worth...
