Our family spends a ridiculous amount of time comparing, evaluating and ranking every experience under the sun. We all agree: Sarah's is the best ice cream in the area, bar none (and ours is an area with a lot of great ice cream).
The flavors are just on another level from any other ice cream nearby. The coffee (decaf, btw) ice cream has exceptional intensity of flavor; the aroma is like sticking your nose into a canister of the best, freshest beans.
I'm a peanut butter lover and will often seek out ice creams with a ribbon of peanut butter, but I have usually found that peanut butter-flavored ice cream is weak, lacking the robust flavor of actual peanut butter. Not Sarah's; the base of their peanut butter fudge packs all the punch of the peanut butter you might find elsewhere in a chocolate-peanut butter combination.
The Mmmm & M ice cream was another revelation. Again, I was expecting a fairly faint vanilla-ish base with some M&Ms mixed in. Instead the base had all the concentration of flavor one finds in an actual M&M (except much, much bigger).
Several of the fruity flavors (not usually my thing) are also amazing. I don't even like key lime pie, but their key lime pie ice cream is fantastic.
It's just the most robust, pleasantly concentrated flavors you'll ever find in ice cream. Normally I rely on the fillings to give me the intensity I'm looking for, but Sarah's is a rare place where the ice cream itself...
Read moreTonight, I had the pleasure of stopping by Sarah’s Homemade Ice Cream, and let me tell you, it was GREAT! My sister lives just five minutes away from this shopping center, so we’re always in the area, but I had never tried Sarah’s until now, and I'm so glad I did.
I was recommended the Luck O the Irish flavor, which is essentially mint chocolate chip with Lucky Charms. Let me just say, whoever came up with this flavor combination deserves a raise—it was absolutely amazing! The minty freshness combined with the Lucky Charms marshmallows was AMAZING.
In addition to the Luck O the Irish, I also tried the Orange Creamsicle, and it was nothing short of perfection. The texture was incredibly smooth, and the flavor was bursting with orange goodness. It was by far the smoothest ice cream I've ever had!
One thing that really surprised me was the variety of flavors available at Sarah’s. From classic favorites to inventive creations, there's something for everyone.
I'm already looking forward to my next visit, where I plan to get a brownie or a cookie ice cream sandwich. With such delicious options, I'll definitely be coming...
Read moreI’ve been going to Sara’s Handmade Bethesda locations for years. I was really glad to see that the new Falls Grove location opened!
The facility is very clean and the staff is very pleasant. As always, the flavor selection is overwhelming (in a good way). So many traditional and unique options to choose from. This spring has particularly fun flavors!
I always get a 1/2 and 1/2 scoop (I love that they offer this). It’s nice to try two different flavors with getting an overwhelming amount of ice cream.
Flavors from my last visit:
Classic pistachio- a classic for a reason. Always delicious, a very subtle hit of salty with the chunks of pistachios. Not the scary green color that you buy at the store
Lemon sorbet- naturally dairy free, light and refreshing
Rose Pistachio- I am partial to anything rose flavored. This was delightful! Creamy and well balanced.
