The food and restaurant vibes itself were great. Our service however, was not. We had a group of about 15 or maybe even less. Our server acted like it was a burden with any request of refill, silverware, sauce .. anything we asked for. She came back to our table a total of 4 times, to take our drink, to take our order, once when the food came and to ask if we figured out our bill.
When taking our orders, I tried to explain that I was going to be with my mom on the same bill. She explained that we can split our bill in four due to our party size. I said “okay perfect we can split” and then was cut off by her saying “we will do that at the end what do you want to order?” So I did try in the beginning to make the end result as smooth as possible. she obviously did not want that. While we had food she came a total of one time. We asked for more water and ice and it was a whole ordeal, as if it was a large task to grab a pitcher of ice water. At the end when she knew we wanted to split into four as I had said that in the beginning. She brought our bill all in one and practically ran away before we could explain the four ways to split. we waited for her to come back. She did not. My cousin went to the manager to ask how this could be split.. she told her by seat number. We sat and waited for our “waitress” to come back to help us split the bill. She did not. My aunt decided to pay our $500 bill and my cousin sat there splitting our own bill doing the job for our waitress herself, of course the tip is already included because of our party size. The waitress came back saying “did you figure it out” we responded no and paid the bill as one tab which is not what we wanted. The service of this restaurant was lacking. We were a good group who did not ask for many requests and are a family of servers and know to tip well. We were kind, stacked plates for her, kept garbage and mess to a minimum. The treatment was unnecessary. It was very disgusting to see the way we were treated and hope that future large parties are not...
Read moreI wish I liked Bloody Marys more (or at all) because then I would like Market more. To be fair, I've only been once, & I usually try to reserve judgment or online review until I've been more than once, but this place rubbed me the wrong way right off the bat. My boyfriend & I went in on a Sunday, expecting a bit of a wait, but when we got in, we found that nearly every table was empty, except for a few. Absolutely no one was waiting - & yet we were told that it would be "at least 30 minutes." For whom? Reservations that hadn't come in yet? A whole restaurant full of them? The hostesses seemed bored & snooty, & they looked notably surprised when we said we wanted to put our name in anyway.
We walked over to the bar for drinks in the meantime, which was packed with people who had presumably made the same decision. We did find two seats together, & we decided we may as well just eat at the bar, where at least the bartender was friendly & kind, unlike his coworkers at the host stand.
The food was good, & there was a lot of it. I was slightly disappointed by the "waffle sliders," which I imagined to be, like... sliders. Instead, it was basically an omelet made with waffle halves instead of egg - one big waffle sandwich that, or a waffle taco. I had to eat it with a fork because it was incredibly messy, but it was also incredibly delicious, so I give it a pass. I think it was a little bit misrepresented on the menu, though. The boyfriend got the breakfast burger, which he devoured, & we split their fries, which were A+. Beer & mimosas to drink.
The bill was a little bit more expensive than I normally would like to spend for Sunday brunch, especially seated at a bar, but the food was decent & the company, at least was good - and, OK, so was the bartender, who was working his tail off to serve all the people who somehow couldn't get tables in an empty restaurant. I'd probably go back, but I'd be sure to make...
Read moreI recently dined at Market in Rocky River, Ohio, and while some aspects of the experience were satisfactory, I was ultimately left disappointed by questionable business practices that overshadowed the meal.
The Good Service: The staff was attentive and professional throughout our visit Food Quality: The dishes were decent - nothing extraordinary, but adequately prepared and presented
The Major Disappointment: Mystery "Convenience Fee". What completely soured the experience was the discovery of an unexplained 2.50% "Convenience Fee" added to our bill. This fee raised several concerning issues: Applied universally - charged regardless of payment method (cash or credit) No clear explanation - our server couldn't explain what the fee covers No added value - we received no special services or conveniences to justify this charge Appears to be taxable - the fee scales with the bill size, suggesting it's treated as taxable income Lack of transparency - why isn't this cost simply built into menu prices?
Red Flags: The practice feels deceptive and potentially fraudulent. Customers deserve to know: What they're paying for? Who benefits from additional fees? Why costs aren't transparently included in advertised prices
Final Verdict: While the food and service were acceptable, the unexplained convenience fee represents poor business ethics and a lack of transparency with customers. I will not be returning to Market due to this questionable billing practice.
Recommendation: Avoid until they can clearly explain their fee structure or eliminate these mystery...
