Candlelite is a tavern located in Western Rogers Park. It was recommended by someone at work who said that while its primarily a pizza restaurant, they had good cheeseburgers. Since it was close to the job and I had never heard of it, I saved it as a place of interest if I needed a lunch while at work. While the pizza menu looked impressive, i stayed true to the Cheeseburger recommendation and ordered the BBQ Bacon Cheddar burger. Topped with French fried onions, bacon, lettuce and tomato and put on a pretzel roll smeared with Merkts cheddar and BBQ sauce. I have to say that while the burger was predictably a mess to handle, the flavors here complimented each other well. Usually when Merkts cheddar is used on a burger it tends to be the star of the show, but the actual meat used for the burger stood tallest here. Very beefy flavored and some bites almost had a steak like flavor to them. The drippings from the burger took the taste of my side order of tater tots to a different level. The online order process was easy enough to use. But when I placed my order it said it would take 40 minutes, so I planned on it taking 40, but it only took 20 and I got a text when it was ready, So my order sat for 15 or so minutes which was detrimental to the texture of my tater tots. Anyone that knows me, knows that I don't care for pretzel rolls. This one was okay, but much like the taters, it softened up during the wait contributing further to the messiness of the burger All in all, I was quite pleased with my order. I don't think this is a $21 hamburger, but it was certainly delicious. I do plan to come back and try their pizza. It looks super promising, and when I do I'll make a further edit to this review and average the scores together.

I’ve been to Candlelite Chicago a few times now, and it’s always a solid experience. The first time I went was on a Monday, and they had their half-off pizza deal, which is an absolute steal. You’re basically getting buy-one-get-one-free pizzas, but I believe it’s only for the medium and large sizes. Such a great deal! Another time I went, we got the pizza again, and the taste has been super consistent every time. We tried the taco pizza, which was good, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the smokiness that comes from the roasted red pepper. Other than that, it was pretty solid. The veggie pizza is also a hit—classic tavern-style with a crispy, crunchy crust that’s just so good. For appetizers, we got the fries, which were awesome, and you absolutely have to end the night with their cookie skillet. It’s really, really good, though it can be a bit too sweet with all the caramel and chocolate on top. Plus, the ice cream-to-cookie ratio is a little off, but it’s still worth getting. Both times I’ve been, the service was great. The place can get really busy on Mondays, so just a heads-up if you’re planning to go then. There’s street parking right in front that’s usually free at night, which is super convenient. Definitely worth checking out!

I'd heard a ton about Candlelite over the years and how they had some of the best thin crust pizza in the city of Chicago, so the wife and I managed to go there for on a Saturday night, to see how it stacked up. The place was packed, but we were able to get a seat in no time, with the staff being truly exceptional, in both greeting us, welcoming us in for the very first time and taking us to our table. A server got to us very quickly, got us beers and we were able to order some deep fried pickles and a medium sausage pizza. The food did not disappoint! The pickles came out first and was battered very lightly and came with a nice spicy aoili, that complimented the pickles. The pizza had a great amount of sausage on it, the sauce was really tasty and the cracker-thin crust was truly exceptional! I can't wait to go back and if you're ever on the far Northside of the city, you owe it to yourself to check out Candlelite, because it is DEFINITELY worth the hype!

Been coming in for a while and just learned there was a fish and chips special. I would have loved for this to be advertised anywhere because I would have ordered it but seems to be a secret menu item. They said they have always done it on Fridays but we come in often and never saw it advertised. Bit pricy for quality and location, but the service is actually really impressive. The servers have large sections and do a fabulous job maintaining all tables. Every time we come in. The main thing I noticed and didn’t like was Upon paying, I was kind of confused that there was a “hospitality fee” included. Yes, the service is excellent, but I would prefer to tip on my own (I understand included gratuity for large parties, but this was a “hospitality fee.”) a fee for dining in it really only translates to? I called the server over and she said that it was a credit card surcharge, and would be removed with paying with cash. I get credit card surcharges, but I go out often, and they are always labeled as so. Wondering if the server was given incorrect information or if it was accurate, wondering if this institution refers to the credit card surcharge as a “fee” for cash paying individuals to look it over and pay extra that they don’t have to pay in the...
