Wow. What a great meal! I love Haitian Creole food. This was one of the best
Bannann Peze(Fried Plantain) and Marinad (fried spiced fritters), Griyo (braised and then fried pork belly) with rice and beans all were amazing.
In particular, the marinad is such a simple sounding side/app - but is a flavour-packed ball of fried dough! So good in fact, that our table ordered seconds of this dish to go with our dinner!
I loved also the griyo (aka griot in French)! Because they braise then fry the pork belly, it is tender and juicy while crispy! The rice and beans are a lovely pairing with it. And the pikliz (spicy coleslaw) provides an amazing sharp vinegary spice to contrast the savoury umami notes of the dish!
The Turkey Creole Stew is misleadingly full of flavour. It is hearty with a generous portion of turkey along with the fried plantains and the spicy slaw.
To wash it all down, I recommend getting the passion fruit drink as a sweet refreshing contrast!
Chef Patricia was doing double duty as front and back of house. No easy task to manage! She made our table feel welcomed and took lovely care of us to explain the dishes to us.
The dine-in area is very much set up as a banquet event space. I rather enjoyed the larger tables - especially since our table shared numerous dishes together.
This will be a return place for me to try other dishes! I'll update this review...

Read moreKizin Creole is fun spot to try Haitian food - get the delicious Haitian Patty.
Don’t think I’ve ever eaten Haitian food before so this was a treat to try out. We can’t travel and can’t BBQ as much with friends, but we are lucky that Chicago offers so much diverse food.
The key dishes were the Griyo (deep-fried pork shoulder) and the Haitian Patty (awesome).
Griyo - Of course this was good (read description above). I pulled off Griyo chunks to dunk in a delicious salsa sauce that came with it. So many dunks. Also comes with choice of rice - I tried the black mushroom rice (no mushrooms in it) but heard the recommended side is red beans and rice.
The Haitian Patty - Wowoweewa! My friend was adamant that I try these. SO GOOD! I’m so glad I got four of these but was also sad I only got four of these. They remind me of a ham and cheese croissant but they eat more like a spanikopita. Buttery, flaky, and the beef filling was so tasty. These are a must try and come with other meat fillings - collect them all now.
Be warned the Haitian Patty wasn’t on the pickup menu. I had to call to order them. Also, Haitian Patties go fast - I called at 5pm and they were sold out.
Pikliz = Haitian Kimchi (closer to spicy cole slaw or the white kimchi they’re using at...
