There was no line but 2 parents were still getting the rest of their order I THOUGHT. 1 lady was making a grilled sandwhich while the other lady was chatting with the parents who were waiting and then when I thought the chatty lady was coming to help me because I had been standing there for 10 min she just went next to the lady and made another sandwhich. Not once did anyone acknowledge me or even say I will be with you in a min or good morning or anything. They acted like I was invisible. I was being patient and giving them the benefit of a doubt while I just stand there INVISIBLE as IF my time is not valuable. Usually they have a long line so I EXPECT that when there is NO line and two people working at least ONE can say Good Morning I will be right with you. But finally 15 min later 1 Lady walks to me tentatively as if the powers of invisibility wore off and she just stands in front of me and looks at my face..no How may I help you nor Good Morning. I am very friendly and I don't expect every ONE to be as friendly as me but if I had to already wait you can at least say thank you for your patience or something. They didn't acknowledge me at all for 15 min and then they don't acknowledge my patience for being ignored. I took a deep breath and told her I wanted an Elotes. I saw the corn right there and they open at 6am and this was 7 and she tells me it will take 20 more min. Wait WHAT??? You've been open an hour but the corn isn't ready??? Why NOT??? That was realllllly annoying AND SUSPECT. I planned to buy 3 other items but I thought wowww maybe they don't want myyyyy money. Would they have completely ignored me if I was Mexican? I DON'T THINK SO. I didn't like how this made me feel and I have no idea if she is just telling me some bull to send me off but I didn't feel like patronizing this business any more. Maybe I was experiencing some racism, maybe she was just giving me poor customer service I don't know but I know as a paying customer I deserved better. So Instead of ordering the other items I wanted, I just said thank you because I am more courteous than her apparently and I started to leave. What they DON'T KNOW is that I know spanish so when the other Lady asked what happened and was told that I wanted Elotes, she LAUGHED. Wait what is FUNNY about a customer being made to wait longer than necessary just to not even be able to get what she wanted? That was beyond rude and unprofessional. I have been here before on the week days and there was another lady who gave me good customer service BUT actually the Elotes was the WORST I ever had. Part of the corn cob was cut with the kernels and I never experienced that before. I thought that just was an easy mistake so I was already giving them ANOTHER CHANCE. NOW I...
Read moreThe first time I walked into this establishment it was in full swing. Not being familiar with this place I was hoping to get up front and view the menu to get an idea of the menu items and cost. I saw a few side by side monitors displaying a dizzying array of flavors? With no clear explanation of what they were used for? I glanced around for a "to go" menu or some hand written pricing and saw nothing so I left.
All I knew is that the next time I returned I would need to bring someone fluent in Spanish if I were to have any hope of navigating this menu.. if there is a menu?
Many months have passed since my first attempt and my Latin companion and I made our way in. It was not crowded and the digital menu screens were off. (to my relief) a simple menu is where? We were asked what we wanted as if we already knew. At this point with the sensory overload I couldn't say whether I was a a dessert shop / Cafe / bread / soup / sandwich and ice cream shop combination or ?
After a few moments it was clear that ice cream and ice/ cream/pops were their specialty. , but there may be more? The ice cream was a 5 star selection as far as I'm concerned. Way better than what you're used to seeing at an ice cream shop and mmm.
After getting a paper menu.. Yes!.. I was surprised. Or not? that it contained as much gibberish (as far as I was concerned) and not much more as far as both of us could see.
Just look at the attached picture of one side of the menu for yourself.
...to that end if the establishment would like assistance in creating a sensible menu for everyone? We would be happy to provide. Just say so here.
...on the menu I recognized two words.. "Banana split" It was awesome.
But the menu will drive me elsewhere.
Oh. And thankfully we didn't come with kids in tow.. 1001 Nights. was playing on the big...
Read moreEdit: They actually have some employees who speak perfect English, which I didn't realize my first couple times here. My bad! I didn't mean to give false info. I have to give this place five stars because the ice cream and the palletas (popsicles) are just out-of-this-world delicious! I'm not thrilled with their hygiene and safety standards, especially considering covid, but since I've been fully vaccinated I just wear a mask while I'm inside, don't dine in, and use a little hand sanitizer before I enjoy my treats. The people are always very friendly, and I like to practice my Spanish with them. It can be a little tricky finding what you want if you don't speak Spanish, but they do have an online menu that shows some of the options in Spanish and English. And of course there is also Google Translate. They are open seven days a week from morning till late at night. I would recommend checking the information on Google to see how busy they are before you go there, because at their busiest times the lines and the wait times get very very long. Honestly though it's worth it for the ice cream because it is made with such fresh ingredients and they have all sorts of flavors, some of which are really exotic. The prices are also very reasonable especially considering that the portions are very generous. I really...
