Zaxbys Chicken Fingers & Buffalo Wings — Restaurant in Rome

We have been coming here for the last 4 years. I know employees come and go, and the quality of food and service won't always be the same, but what happened during our visit yesterday was laughable, and we did laugh about it.

On March 8, 2020, we ordered ahead and got to the window of this Zaxby's at 2:16pm according to our receipt. The guy at the window gave me my drink and asked me to park at space 1, and he would bring it out when it was ready. We ordered chips, so we know it usually takes a while for them to be cooked, but we eneded up waiting at least 20 minutes. They weren't busy, very few cars were coming by, and if you've been to this Zaxby's, you know they can have cars lined out into the road.

I walked inside and waited for someone to come help me, and I explained to the lady that I had been waiting for 20 minutes. That was actually pretty generous considering it was 2:45 and we had been waiting since 2:16. She looked up my order and told me they hadn't started making it. She let me know they would get started on that now. I walked back outside, but decided to go back in and talk to the manager.

The manager was there and asked what the problem was. I told her I had been waiting at least 20 minutes and the employees tried to defend themselves by saying nobody had pulled me up to the window. I told them I was pulled up to the window, and I have a drink to prove it. The manager also checked the time on the receipt and saw that I was telling the truth. She had them start on my order, which by the way was only 2 sandwiches and a salad. On one of the sandwiches, we had a special instruction to have no ranch, because my husband is lactose intolerant. The manager double checks that we don't want ranch, and then tells the cook not to put ranch on the sandwich. The manager also writes on the receipt that we can get a replacement meal for free the next time we come, which was super nice of her.

While I was waiting for my food, I overhear the workers in the back talking about me. Asking who pulled me up, accusing me of lying, etc. The entire time, the guy that did pull me up stayed silent. I spoke up and told them that if they want to know who pulled me up, they could just ask, and I said it was that guy. He said "yeah, I did pull him up," and he walked away. The manager personally gave me my food, and that was the end of it.

Until it wasn't. We get to the car, ready to get home and eat, and my husband checks his sandwich. Not only does it have ranch on it, but the entire inside of the box is splattered with ranch. Usually, we can let that go, but I heard the manager tell the cook not to put ranch on it literally seconds before he made it. We turned around and went back, and showed the manager the food. She was super nice and apologized, saying there was no excuse for that. And there wasn't. She refunded the cost of that sandwich and personally made another one, but they threw the original one away, so we didn't get 2. I'll also add that they gave us fries with the new one instead of chips, but we didn't go back a third time.

I am a white guy. And I don't want to look like a Karen. I hate asking to speak to the manager. I was shaking and out of breath because I didn't want to seem rude. I was extremely courteous and nice, I even had the employees asking me to repeat myself because I didn't want to make it seem like I was raising my voice. The only person in that store that was nice to me was the manager. And I feel bad that she has to deal with her rude employees, especially when the cook messes up the order so much.

I'll also add that it's not the first time they've messed up our order. We usually just shrug it off, even when they forget to even put some...

We have ben going to ZAXBYS on Turner McCall on and off from the day it Open the doors, I hate to say it but like 95% of most places they have ben letting the food slip down the tube you might say, When we first went everything was really good and now it is like most things they have they just do not care to take the time to do it like they use to, Take the Bread, When they started selling it you could not get enough of it and now it is Hard and has no really Good taste to it. The Service is still somewhat on the Good side but could be just a little better they use to greet you when you came in the door and now they just greet some of the people that come in. They have a Good Salad or Zalad as they call it, The have some Good Chicken Dishes and some not so Good but for the most it is still not Bad, The reason I am giving it 3 out of 5 is because we had ben stopping in the last several weeks getting the Chef's Salad and the Cobb Salad to just see if they would keep it the same and I hate to say it but every time it is Different in some way such as they forget something in the salad or they forget to give you something in your order and most of the time you can not even hear them call your number out for you to come pick up your food. Over all it is a OK place and most of the time it is Clean inside and out so really the blame falls on the person in Charge or not keeping on top of the workers. We was in Zaxby's yesterday and I would say along with us was about 7 people eating and we could not hear what we was saying across our table because of all of the people working yelling at each other for this or for that and one guy in the Kitchen was Singing and Dancing so if you get a table where you can see the Kitchen you get Free Entertainment and a Dance show so I guess it makes up for a lot of the not so good things at the least we had a Good Laugh watching him try to be a Star in Zaxby's. So if you like a place to get some Good but not Great food and you can talk real loud and would like some kitchen show every now and then feel free to take a seat in Zaxby's in Rome Georgia on Turner McCall Blvd and have somewhat of a Good time. I have been pretty shocked as to what has happened to Zaxby's in Rome ( essentially both locations, but Turner McCall especially). I've now had three no so good interactions at the Turner McCall location. One, they got the order totally wrong. The second was a Curbside order and they didn't bring out the order after over 20 minutes and I had to call their phone number to get someone to bring it out. That particular time, the manager blamed the problem on " Well, that's what happens when we hire teenagers". You would think management would fix that problem immediately. Also, when I got home, I noticed my wife's lettuce in her salad was wilted and slimy. Zaxby's as a company, has always held it's standard to superior service and quality above most fast food chains. I remember as a vendor to them, how well kept their food prep area was and always looked as clean as their first day opened. It's obviously not the same standard anymore by the service and food quality. It makes me eager to bring a Rasin' Canes to the Rome market. So my third interaction was much the same as the second. Curbside order, sat for over twenty minutes, and no one would answer the phone. In fact, they picked up and immediately hung it up without answering. I walked in to the store and there was two young ladies standing around, one on her phone, not busy doing much of anything. One asked if she could take my order. I told her no, but I would like to receive my curbside order. She turned to look for it and rolled her eyes and then handed it to me. As I turned to walk back out the door, both girls started laughing. Don't know what they found amusing but it certainly isn't how they operate their responsibility at work.
