Thien An Bo 7 Mon – Rosemead, CA ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I hadn’t been back here in almost a decade, and I’m happy to say Thien An is still serving the same high-quality food with excellent service. It’s always great when a place stays true to what made it special in the first place.
We came with friends and family and ordered the medium-sized baked catfish—perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. For appetizers, we had the house special beef and shrimp salad, the charbroiled meatball, and the charbroiled meat wrapped in Hawaiian leaf, which was especially juicy and flavorful.
We also tried the house special fried rice. It was fine, but definitely overshadowed by the other dishes.
One of the most enjoyable parts of eating here is building your own spring rolls. It’s interactive, fun, and makes the meal feel a little more special. The fermented fish sauce and tamarind sauce pair perfectly with the fish and grilled meats.
The atmosphere here is warm and welcoming—great for family gatherings or celebrating with friends. If you’re looking for a spot that delivers on flavor and a great dining experience, Thien An is still one...
Read moreMy go to spot for 7 courses of beef and baked cat fish. Here's why:
Great value for a larger group (Last visit medium catfish, 4 portions of 7 courses of beef, and a couple of beers was less than $40/pp including tip) I always leave full and satisfied It's usually not crazy busy and they have a good amount of tables ( Last visit walked in on a Saturday night for 7 and there was no wait) Staff is pretty friendly 10% off with Yelp check-in for birthday celebrations A handful of TVs if you need to have the game on while dining They only charge extra for vermicelli and not for extra rice paper or veggies
Tips: It's been mentioned but call ~45 mins in advanced for the baked catfish so it'll be ready for when you show up There are three main dipping sauces; super funky fermented fish, more mild fish sauce, slightly tart tamarind sauce. You can mix to your level of desired funk but the peanuts, sambal, pickled lemon grass helps temper everything It's super hands on food, don't be afraid to ask for help if you didn't come with an...
Read moreThien An may be the only place I've experienced 7 Course Beef before, but it set the bar pretty high. The best tip I can give is to go with someone who knows their stuff. Several visits later, I still haven't learned the art of wrapping a spring roll. Most of my friends just give up and end up making a "spring taco."
At $16.99 per order, don't expect to be overwhelmed with meat, but you'd be surprised how full you'll be after all 7 courses. We usually split an order of 7 course beef and a bun cha gio (vermicelli topped with egg rolls) between two people, and leave feeling stuffed. Feel free to order more rice paper, but vermicelli is an extra charge.
Finally gathered enough people to try the catfish recently, and that was rather disappointing. We ordered the large size catfish at about $50, and I just didn't think it was worth it. For a little more, I could have enjoyed a lobster from Newport Tan Cang Seafood!
Beware of the wait for dinner on weekends (make a reservation!). You know those Asian families love to get together and fight...
