We got the gyro platter. It wasn't bad but it tasted like every other gyro meat I've ever had. To the best of my knowledge everybody gets theirs from the same place. I really want to place that actually makes their own like they do in Mexico with the chicken and the pineapple and onions Etc and herbs and everything. Again it was okay but the worst thing about it was it didn't come with a side of fries so I asked for a side of fries. Unfortunately they don't sell fries by the side so I had to buy a basket which was like three or four times that amount. The good side of it was the fries were good but they were greasy. Now on the menu they had I can get a side of gyro meat and we really wanted to try the steak and asked if we could get a side of the steak she says I don't think so but I'll go ask. Waitress comes back and says you cannot get a side of the steak which should have to buy the a la carte steak Gyro. I said I don't want the whole thing I just want to taste the meat to see the difference. She told me the owner said they can't do it. Now why in the world can you sell a side of gyro meat but you can't sell a side of the steak or the chicken or anything else to taste as opposed to having to buy the whole thing. We won't be going back although it was busy but just not worth eating the same food for at or a little more than I can get at other places for Less. Also another negative was that they had the music up so loud and playing various songs like Madonna and other music that didn't go with the vibe that just didn't need to really hear. Actually the correct myself yeah it was the gyro plate voice to text doesn't seem to work much platter came out. No I was told that we cannot have a side because they don't have a side of fries it's not on the list she told me specifically I had to get the whole basket so we did. As far as the side of steak I wasn't told to get the side of steak without all that other stuff I was told straight out they don't have a side of steak I'd have to order the whole gyro ala carte. Not the correct you but I do need to correct you because just like everybody else your meat tastes the same as the next person across the street down the road downtown Etc I have yet tasted one that was different although I have been given the option of other places that actually do make their own. And no you won't be seeing me again. The first experience being a bad experience doesn't lead to a better experience. And the choice of Music really wasn't the problem it was how loud it was and annoying playlist or not. And as far as the nitpicking your job as a restauranteaur is to make sure nobody has anything to nitpick about. If they do then you as a restauranteaur need to fix it. Otherwise like myself they won't be back. So if you can show me where that side of fries and that side of steak is on that menu although I was never given the option of the side of steak I will edit my review and apologize that I was wrong and told the wrong...
Read moreUnfortunately mid.
We came during a Thursday night dinner. It was very busy, but not horrible and we did not feel unattended to. Our waitress was especially nice and polite, though it's funny to go to a gyro place and hear the staff very confidently mispronounce gyro.
I was hoping that from the pictures and the touts of freshness we were in for some really wonderful stuff. I love gyros! But unfortunately the meal was very middling and not the best I've had in the burgh.
We got potato skins, and they were very overdone, with a very small portion. Nothing special about them, they just sure were some potato skins. I asked for some blue cheese and that was probably the most offensive part. I've never had blue cheese that had no cheese, nor stung my nostrils. I don't know how they made straight vinegar look like a white dressing, but it was definitely unpleasant.
My partners burger was very plain. Just mid. So was my gyro. The meat was dry- perhaps cut a bit too thin but otherwise nothing special or awful, just regular gyro meat. I wasn't floored by any indicator of quality. The veggies just seemed like precut stuff that wasn't especially fresh or adding much. I'm not even sure the tzatziki had much flavor other than yogurt. My long island was only five dollars for happy hour, but I'm not convinced it had anything but coke and sour in it.
The fries were perhaps the worst part as they looked so good online. Very tasty once we salted them, and good texture. But about a third of them were uncooked.
If anything, I could make a recommendation to the layout- the hostess stand is shoved right at the front, and there's no room to wait without inconveniencing passing wait staff. The dining room has a huge amount of free space. If you just moved the desk towards the left, perhaps your waitresses wouldn't be having to squeeze past with full hands of food.
The restaurant is new and like I said, was busy. But it's incredibly safe and plain with nothing that would make me scramble back here. Perhaps I will try something other than a...
Read moreI’ll start off by saying I love Mike & Tony’s in the South Side and was excited to have the NH location open. We went tonight (Friday) and it was somewhat busy but we were seated quickly. Our server was pretty much AWOL during our entire visit because she was sitting at another table eating with other guests! She was either standing at this other table, sitting at the table, or sitting at the adjacent table the entire time we were seated. Our food came out and was terrible but it became an observational experience to see how long she would sit at the table before coming to check on us. The fries were wet/soft and overly salted. I had the pork souvlaki and it was dripping in grease, super fatty, and the first piece I bit into wasn’t fully cooked. I’m fine with some pink in good quality pork but this wasn’t it. It was so oily that the sauce slid off it cleanly. When she finally came over and I said this was not good, her response was to say - we don’t get many complaints about the souvlaki, maybe it’s just because it’s fatty that you don’t like it. She didn’t offer anything else, or comment on the piece that was half gray/half pink. She just bussed our table and brought our check - with the souvlaki included. I’m struggling to think of a time we’ve had worse service, which combined with bad food makes this a solid 1 star. Sad to say Mike & Tony’s won’t get any repeat business despite being convenient.
Edit: I called to speak with the manager in response to his request, and he did genuinely seem to be concerned about the service issues specifically. He said he identified who was involved, spoke with the server, acknowledged this never should have happened, and was very courteous. If we go back - I will update my review...
