Was running errands after work and fancied a gyro (also known as a kabab or shawarma) for dinner. I had saved this new place in Google Maps to try one day, and this was that day.
It is on my home where the old Vocelli used to be, went inside and was greeted by a friendly smile by Ahmed. He explained the menu to me and I was planning to take the food to go, but the ambience and pure friendliness of Ahmed made me decide to dine in. The decor and cleanliness in this place is great.
My waitress Nazgul was also very friendly and attentive, she recommended the Ayran for my drink, it is a house made yogurt drink which was very good. My chicken sharwma with fries arrived piping hot and it was very tasty. The size is like an over stuffed Chipotle burrito and I ate half and was full. But it was so good that I finished off the other half too. I asked for hot sauce on the side and it added the right amount of heat.
The menu is extensive and I will be back to try the other items for sure. With not many Mediterranean food options this end of Perry highway, it is refreshing to have such a great authentic and very friendly staffed restaurant near my home.
If you want authentic, tasty food served in a very friendly environment, then this place is for you. Thank you Ahmed, Nazgul and the chefs for making my Monday evening dinner spectacular.
Update: have been going back for other menu food and drinks, and the quality is still great. But the time it takes to get the food from when ordered has been quite long. Recommend you order before getting there or order as soon as you get in, then settle in and the food...
Read moreWow! This place is a hidden gem. Hummus was amazing - not too over powered with garlic or lemon. Tasted so freshly made and served with 1 hot pita. Lamb shish was wonderfully marinated and served on rice. A "salad" rounded off the plate. The pleasant surprise was homemade Aryan - a Turkish salty yogurt drink - served ice cold and so delicious. It tasted just like what I remember drinking in Istanbul.
Portions are on the smaller side but quality is focus, not quantity. The rice wasn't very flavorful but made a nice accompaniment to the lamb. The lamb was tender and done perfectly. The hummus was served with 1 pita, which isn't enough. It could use 1 more to finish all the hummus.
The atmosphere is eclectic? One side of the room is beachy while the rest of the place is.. like a regular restaurant. But, the sun shines through the windows - which were clean, the tables nicely set and everything was spotless. They didn't skimp on silverware - it was nice and heavy.
Expect what I call "European" drink service - meaning soft drinks and water are not automatically served with ice - but they have it if you ask.
They encourage BYOB and luckily, a really good wine store is right next door.
Our waitress was charming, attentive and knowledgeable. What was most appreciated is that the owner makes it a point to stop at every table to check on his customers and thank them.
The place was hopping with customers for dining in and take out.
Their menu has photos of their dishes and we cannot wait to go back...
Read moreMy husband, me and my toddler went to this restaurant after trying a mediterranean restaurant in Washington, DC for the first time. We liked the food so much we had to try a mediterranean restaurant in Pittsburgh. I have to tell you I was really impressed with this restaurant, the food was delicious, the service was outstanding, the guys who work there were super nice and polite, but overall what impressed me the most was how clean this place is. I've been in several restaurants and you can see most of them clean their tables and floor but if you start looking at the light fixtures, decorations and the joints in the wall you can see some dust there. Well this place was impecable. For curiosity I went to their restroom because I think you can tell how clean a facility is when you see their bathroom. Not kidding, they have the cleanest restroom I ever went to in a restaurant. I felt the restroom was just built and cleaned that day and I was the first person ever to use the restroom. Not a single fingerprint, no dust in the baseboards or around picture frames, not a single particle of dust. Whoever clean this restaurant must be good at cleaning a crime scene LOL. It reminded me of Luxembourg where I lived few months and people there say they even clean the light bulbs in the street lights. Anyway, I tottally recommend this place and we will be coming back there for sure to try...
