Not for the first time, I had a genuinely subpar experience at this Kerby location. But this is the first time I'm leaving a review as the service never seems to get better. This time, I came to the conclusion that Kerby is sacrificing customer experience for profit. The server went on break as soon as we were seated and took our order right before he disappeared for 15 minutes. All was well and good, we expected to get our appetizer of queso and be perfectly content to wait however long for our food as it was very busy. We watched as several quesos were delivered to other tables as about 15 minutes dragged by. Eventually, our server comes back out to the patio and realizes that a queso was delivered to the wrong table by mistake. He goes up to them and explains what happened, trying to get the queso back from them with the goal, I can only assume, being to deliver it to our table. Fortunately, the table explained they had already started eating it, and he left them with a free queso and us still with none. He goes to try to get us our appetizer, I assume, and while he's gone, our entrees come out. We haven't had him really check on us in a while, so we haven't been able to let him know we still need silverware. So, there we are, hungry, still no queso, and utensil-less to eat our food. Finally, our server does come back, and we do get our queso and utensils, but no apology. We muddle on through our lunch and ask for the check and ato go container for the queso. The server comes back with both, and then, after handing our check to us, he delivers yo to go container to the table that got our queso earlier. Once again, we're upset, but it's fine, we just catch his attention and ask again for a to go container for the queso since we didn't really get to eat any of it. What he comes back with is a plastic sandwich box, the kind that is hinged and snaps shut with holes in the lid. We are confused and say, "Oh, no, it's for the queso..." because that won't work to hold in a liquid. He says that this container is for the queso. Now we are very confused because the container he just brought to the other table was a proper queso to go container, the paper cylinder with the plastic lid that attaches all the way around. We point this out and either he lies or this restaurant has an impossibly idiotic to go container policy because he tells us that he brought that one to them by mistake, and his manager got mad at him.
At this point, I'm done being treated terribly and let him know that the container is unacceptable because the queso will leak everywhere, and he is just going to have to throw it away. He apologizes half heartedly and scurried away.
To sum up, do not eat here unless you are the kind of person who is comfortable asking to speak to the manager. We overpaid for a meal that was not fully provided and tipped for service that was inadequate. I know that it's not entirely our servers' fault, but the least that could be done was acknowledge that we were being...
Read moreI recently visited Kerbey Lane Cafe for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised by the overall experience. The cafe boasts a great environment that is perfect for families, especially those with kids. They have a designated playzone, which kept the little ones entertained and resulted in a lot of happy children throughout the establishment. It's definitely a family-friendly place with a diverse crowd, accommodating people of all age ranges.
I arrived at the cafe around 10:35 am and, unfortunately, encountered a 25-minute delay. However, considering the popularity of breakfast spots in general, this wait time was not overly excessive. It's important to note that the staff handled the situation well and kept customers informed about the wait times. The fact that the food arrived within 20 minutes after placing the order was a positive sign, as it indicated that the kitchen was efficiently managing orders.
I decided to try the California omelet with a side of potatoes, and I must say, I was quite satisfied. The portion size was generous, with enough eggs and potatoes to keep me full for the entire day. The omelet itself was flavorful, filled with fresh ingredients that complemented each other nicely. The accompanying potatoes were cooked to perfection, providing a delightful crispy texture. The overall quality of the food met my expectations and left me feeling content.
In addition to the food, I was also pleased with the service at Kerbey Lane Cafe. The staff members were friendly, attentive, and made sure that all my needs were met. Despite the slight delay, they managed to create a welcoming atmosphere, which enhanced the overall dining experience.
Overall, I had a positive experience at Kerbey Lane Cafe. The great environment, especially for families, with the added bonus of a playzone, made it an ideal choice for those dining with children. While the wait time was slightly longer than anticipated, it was reasonable considering the demand for breakfast places. The food itself was delicious, and the portion sizes were more than satisfactory. The service was friendly and accommodating, further contributing to my satisfaction. I would recommend Kerbey Lane Cafe to anyone looking for a family-friendly breakfast spot with good food and a...
Read moreMy wife and I have been eating at various Kerbey Lane cafes for years, and have had a variety of experiences from 5 star to 1 star in that time frame. This visit was the second or third worst of all of them.
It was busier than usual, and the hostesses handled the crowd well, and despite the crowd we were seated relatively quickly.
The server came to our table and took our drink and queso order. The drinks took longer than they should have, but came out correctly. When the drinks came out, we ordered our main courses. Then the server disappeared for 15 minutes, maybe on his break? In that time, our queso was delivered to the wrong table twice.
When our server came back, he said, "They took your queso to the wrong table." He then went to one of those tables and started to pick up our food before they pointed out that they had been eating it. He left it with them, so he wasn't planning on throwing it away... was he going to give us the food that had been taken to another table? Madness.
Then our main courses came out, along with my first drink refill. We had no silverware, napkins, or appetizer yet, so we got to wait for those.
The meal was okay. When we finished, we asked for a to-go container and the check. I paid online, and tipped much more than I should have before everything was finalized. I say this because he brought our queso to-go container to the table that got our queso. Then he brought us a sandwich to-go container. I pointed out that we need a queso container, and he told us his manager got mad at him for bringing a queso container to the other table. We obviously did not pour our queso into the hinged sandwich container, and I didn't feel like arguing with a manager, so we left nearly $10 worth of queso.
Finally, when we got up to leave, 2 full dog water bowls had been pushed against my wife's chair. She stepped in and started to trip on one before catching herself. The server/busser absolutely needs to pick those up after the people who need them leave.
It isn't hard to do the right thing for your table, and our server chose not to...
