Sammy Lou's Home Cooking & BBQ — Restaurant in Rowlett

Not sure where to start. I have never been so confused about eating somewhere in my LIFE.

My wife and I talked about wanting to try some place new, so we jumped on Google. This place had decent reviews so we wanted to give them a try. I wanted a Burger and she wanted a Loaded BBQ Baked Potato. Well, neither option was on the menu online. We were already on the way and in that horrendous traffic so we still went to give them a shot.

Well, I walked in, and was surprised to see the menu in the restaurant was different than online. They had different items on the menu, different prices, everything was just different.

Well, to prove to my wife I was not crazy since she was driving and I am the one who looked we both looked online at the website for the menu. About 10 seconds in my wife lets me know I must be blind because she sees both the Baked Potato and a Cheeseburger online, but I was right about the pricing being different. I snap back and say, where do you see it!?

Well, then I realize that I was looking at a menu on a totally different website than she was, both say they are this restaurant, and I sat with both phones out, looking at the menu on the table, and ALL 3 were different. They had different items, different prices.. Everything...

Well, I got my burger but my wife still got something other than the potato since the waiter said they were kinda small on the potato side. My burger was horrible. It was over cooked, and fell apart. It was bland, with little flavor and even the meat was chewy. I have never had a chewy tough burger that also crumbled...

I know this is long, an this is my first ever review online, I just do not do these things. I just hope this place gets their act together. How can they change a menu so often, have multiple websites, and still nothing match what is current and in the restaurant?!

Anyway, Service was great, the place was a little dirty, bathrooms were hot and stinky... We will...

Our first time to Sammy’s and enjoyed every bite. The catfish and chicken fried steak were cooked to perfection. All the sides were amazing wish could’ve tried more of them. Onion rings, fried okra, potato salad, and Mac n cheese were the sides we tried. Will be back to try more of the menu. Everything was reasonable priced. Don’t trust the one star reviews it was every bit a five star in my book.

Went back for a second visit with my parents thinking it would be as good as our first visit. I tried the meatloaf and really tried it but was an unpleasant experience. It was so salty it killed any taste of the meat and they put the wrong sauce on top which I requested the red sauce but they put the brown gravy on top. Lukewarm at best could tell the food was warmed up and not freshly made. My onion rings tasted like they were made in the morning and sat all day. Was expecting little better than what we got needless to say most of my meal remained on the plate the few things they got right was the toast and the drinks other than that nothing to write home to. After this experience I honestly do not feel like we will be back. 70 dollars with tip was not worth paying for. Would’ve been better off running into Tom Thumb and getting food ready to eat there. Jan 2, 2024 Has potential. I live local and have passed this restaurant a 100 times. I stopped in today bec I couldn’t get them on the phone the call dropped 10x. I arrive in person, it’s quiet, no hostess, I think you seat yourself. I waited in the bar area someone greets me and presents a menu. I asked about their phones and explained my attempts to call. He seemed befuddled, assuring me the phone works, I tried a dozens times even while there.no bueno.. he appologized. I order the Tuesday special $10 chopped steak with two sides. The food was not pleasing to my palate just not flavorful. Ordered a vodka and cranberry, he forgot to add the vodka,😆seemed nice, skinny white guy with fingernails polished (another distraction) I paid, then left and threw the food out the window on my way home so atleast nature can enjoy it. I’d visit again not for the food but maybe for the karaoke or live jazz music. Underwhelmed at best. One more try and then I’ll update this post… the location is good, esthetically it looks well maintained nothing fancy, staff appears pleasant/ bartender with the nail polish was personable. Food: missed the mark by 50ft....
