1st off, absolutely NO HATE to this establishment my husband an I have eaten here 2x times since moving to the area from Plano 8mo ago. 1x to go and 1x dining in WE LOVED THE FOOD BOTH TIMES!!!!!!! Our waitress was also sweet, communicative and loving to our new baby :) We tried to come have family lunch yesterday (5/24/23) but were blatantly ignored by both the bartender and the only waitress we saw working. I'm not 100% sure but if the manager on duty was a women with black hair and a grey shirt then tbh she ignored us to. Just guessing bc she had a manager air about her, but if she doesn't work their then my bad and please omit her from this review. I and my husband collectively have 25yrs of experience in the food industry. There is almost no situation that you could tell us that we haven't experienced 1st hand ourselves over the yrs, we totally understand being short staffed on a personal level as well as see that Charlie's OFB is not the only local eatery hurting to keep good kitchen staff right now. It takes ALOT for me to get upset because our long history in the industry and understanding that FOH takes the heat when BOH is having issues of whatever kind. I just wanna make it clear to the managers and owner that we really enjoy your food and don't mind waiting for great quality or for a server to be ready to take our table. The reason we left without dining is due to the fact that regardless of the staff seeing us standing at the host stand patiently they flat out just didn't even come by to acknowledge we were there at all!!! I know they saw us I made eye contact with them and waved them off patiently so they didn't feel the need to rush with their currant tables but after standing at the door for 10min without a single word from anyone, we had to settle for Taco Bell. I hope you guys can find some reliable kitchen staff and continue to serve this community great food for many years to come!! We will definitely come back another day and try again!! We hope to be able to bring family here when they visit from around TX and out of state!!! I hope this place can remain and thrive as the area grows with new economic opportunity Best of luck...
Read moreI would rate Charlie's a 1.6 out of 5 based on my recent dining experience. My wife and I went there in the evening to join some friends for a meal. I want to acknowledge that our server, although new, was quite pleasant and did their best under pressure. However, the main issue arose in the kitchen with food preparation and delivery.
My appetizer arrived a frustrating 30 minutes after ordering, and to make matters worse, the rest of our friends received their appetizers 10 minutes later. It appeared as though there was only one person handling all the cooking for the entire restaurant, indicating a clear lack of coordination between the kitchen and the front of the house.
To add to the disappointment, one order of catfish came out overcooked, and I discovered a long hair baked into my meatloaf. Furthermore, the remaining orders were brought to our table in a haphazard manner, making the entire dining experience a chaotic mess. It felt like I was part of a Gordon Ramsey makeover show.
This was my first visit to Charlie's, and I came in with no preconceived notions. Regrettably, I won't be returning. Our local friends informed us that the restaurant had recently closed for rebranding but claimed that nothing substantial had changed, except for the dismissal of the previous staff. It seems they may have taken a page out of UPS's playbook, assuming that hiring new, less experienced staff would be more cost-effective than retaining experienced employees who command higher wages.
It was evident to all of us that the establishment lacked the commitment to deliver quality food and was primarily focused on making a quick profit. Unfortunately, in Royce City, people aren't accustomed to spending money on subpar food, and this approach is unlikely to succeed. I predict that Charlie's won't last much longer unless they make drastic...
Read moreHORRIBLE service and food! From the moment we walked in. Walked in and was half way greeted by a girl wearing a bandana and a very young blonde girl probably teenager. You could tell they didn't want us there. The blonde girl looked over at the one wearing the bandana and said gee thanks for sitting them in my station. We were a party of 8. They both giggled and continued to be displeased with us being there. It was two hours before closing and ONE other table in the restaurant. Finally the blonde girl came to the tabled said very dry and annoyed "drink orders?" didn't introduce herself nothing. we gave the drink order. Gave our food order. Ordered burgers. The waitress never asked how we wanted the burgers made, so we assumed this was one of the many places that just cooked them well done. Also please keep in mind a few others ordered burgers and none were cooked the same. So not really sure what the problem was Well my burger came out bleeding and so under cooked the meat was STILL COLD, so did my 9 year olds. the meat was so greasy the bottom bun was now mush and inedible. The waitress never came back so I had to go to the bar to return all the food.
I would assume the person who helped me once I got to the bar was the manger that night (04/22 was our visit) she was so helpful and apologetic, asked me if I wanted another meal as to which I declined because it had taken so long the first time for a bloody burger and my table was done eating at this point almost. Moral of this long winded story don't go here. If you want to be treated like trash go to one of those places that does it for fun. Don't come here and waste almost 20 dollars for a bloody burger, fries and a drink. I could see why the place was a ghost town on a Saturday night in a...
