I would give this restaurant zero stars if possible. I am not one to write reviews for businesses without having a well established reason but I feel compelled to share my father’s experience with this unprofessional and malicious restaurant. My father went in for lunch and was firstly provided with stale bread. When he spoke to the waiter, a young male, he was treated with rudeness and ignored. After finishing his meal, he paid for the tab and realized he had change in this vehicle to leave for a tip (despite the waiter’s unpleasant and rude behavior). As he headed for his vehicle to get the tip money, the waiter ran after him and started yelling “Don’t ever come back here since you didn’t leave a tip!” and “Get off this property along with horrible profanities. My father was surprised as he wasn’t sure he was the one being yelled at but he quickly realized he was indeed the target. When he went back into the restaurant the waiter proceeded to keep yelling at him in front of other customers. Needless to say, no one stood up for him. The manager who was standing by witnessed the entire incident and did not do anything to stop it. What type of business would allow such behavior towards a customer is what I ask myself. It saddens me to think of this happening in such a beautiful friendly town. This town is made up of several business who care about their customers because they know that they decide whether their business stands the test of time. I would implore future diners to please take into consideration this unethical behavior and avoid this unprofessional, discriminatory, and hateful restaurant. By dining there you support a business that does not represent the great values...
Read moreWe stopped in for breakfast because we were traveling with a dog, and Peña's has a small, pleasant outdoor seating area that welcomes dogs. We were greeted promptly and pleasantly by our waiter, who was gracious and accommodating throughout the experience. Our order came out lightning fast and was tasty enough, though certainly an uncomplicated ask (eggs, bacon, toast, hash browns), and was a bit pricey at $30 for two basic breakfast plates.
All was well until the owner came out to chat with some local friends. I was unable to un-hear their gleeful discussion about Alligator Alcatraz and how hilarious it would be to feed human beings to crocodilians. Some not-so-nice words were said about Native Americans as well, which I found a little shocking given the location so close to the Mescalero Apache lands. Needless to say my appetite vanished in a flash, as would be the case for anyone with a shred of human decency.
So, if you like your eggs and bacon with a side of hyperpartisan and disgustingly cruel soliloquy, then this is the place for you. However, if you are someone who can't maintain an appetite in the face of a purported Christian loudly and gleefully detailing his glee at the idea of human torture, spare your heart the discomfort and stay away. I have never been so disgusted and heartbroken at the state of America in my...
Read moreMy wife and I wanted to do something different for our anniversary weekend, so we drove just over two hours from Las Cruces to Ruidoso, just to have breakfast . Although we had never been to Peñas Place, we decided that sounded like the best option , since although we didn't know just what we wanted, we knew that we wanted to at least have the option of having something Southwestern /Mexican. When we arrived, all of the indoor tables were occupied (I think there's 8 of them), but we only had about a 5 minute wait. There is an outdoor patio , but it's closed during the winter and other bad weather . As it turns out, we made a good decision, since we both opted for the Huevos Rancheros. She had the Red, I had the Green . Both were very tasty, with portions sized just right . Certainly not skimpy, but not too large either. We both would have appreciated more "chile heat", as they were very mild, but we're used to hot Hatch chile , which might not work well in a "touristy" spot. The service was great. They were busy, but made sure that everyone was well taken care of . All in all, Peñas Place was a perfect start to...
