Dairy Queen in Columbia, Ky., certainly has its positive points. As the name implies, dairy products are at the heart of what it does best, which is provide excellent ice cream and similar products to help you enjoy hot summer days and nights with special treats. Where Dairy Queen is average at best, however, is in the realm of American comfort food such as the line of hamburgers and french fries it offers. It is in this area that the fast-food giant somewhat lacks inspiration. The burgers at Dairy Queen, while acceptable, lack the pizazz needed to make it a serious choice among hamburger connoisseurs. You get the feeling that the burgers are pre-cooked and reheated with a microwave oven or something. And if you happen to get a burger that features bacon on it, chances are that you will be disappointed with the amount you get. In all, burgers at Dairy Queen suffer from what I call "Flat Burger syndrome," meaning that the Burger you actually get looks somewhat flatter than the one advertised on the drive-thru sign. It's almost like the last person on the assembly line sits on the burger before it is wrapped up. But to be fair to Dairy Queen, this seems to be a problem with most of the burger chains in the area. If you want a properly stuffed burger you are better off going to a mom-and-pop joint in the area, like Patty's or something. Where Dairy Queen in Columbia particularly excels, in addition to it's ice cream products, is in the area of breakfast offerings. The breakfast bowl for example, doesn't disappoint for those mornings where cholesterol and heart health is a distant concern. To conclude, Dairy Queen in Columbia is generally worth a visit for standard fast-food offerings, but its strengths lie in its ice...
Read moreI went in this evening (7:20)to pick up an order that I placed on the app. There were several older women standing around. They were waiting for food and talking horribly about the young people working. I tried to ignore them, but there came a point where I had enough. I spoke up and said, "you really should give them a break; they are working as hard as they can." One of the women said, they are just standing around. (There was not a single worker doing anything but giving 110%.) The women then snarkily told me that I didn't know anything if I thought they were doing a good job. I told her with a smile on my face that I lived in another county and came to this location because they always got my order right and it was always fresh. Then I stepped around her to reach the counter. These people continued to talk trash about the staff. My order was ready quickly, was correct, and yummy as always. The crew that was working tonight deserves kudos and a raise for not slapping...
Read moreI visited the location with my wife, and about 8 miles down the road, I realized that my Blizzard was made incorrectly. I was understandably disappointed. Upon returning to the store, I requested to speak with the manager, Richard A. He listened to my concerns and assured me that he would be happy to remake the Blizzard.
Richard went above and beyond to rectify the situation, exceeding my expectations.
If this message reaches DQ upper management, I want to highlight that Richard is a valuable asset to your company. I hope he knows that he is appreciated by your organization. As someone who has owned a business in the restaurant industry, I understand the challenges of acquiring and retaining quality...
