I’ve lived here since late ‘80s, and always thought Stobys was more of a sandwich type place, I was proven 100% wrong tonight. My wife talked me into going, for the very first time since I’ve lived here. I was blown away with the historical visions of the trains as soon as I walked in the door. Then again when I seen the menu choices and low prices, compared to other places I’ve been. The service and staff were excellent and seated us quickly. I ordered the 10oz Cajun Ribeye steak and it was the absolute best steak I’ve ever eaten, along with the mashed potatoes and gravy and pinto beans. (Only $15.99! Cheaper then other places I’ve been, and oh so much better taste to!) Even as simple as a side dish may sound, they were more of a craftsmanship! I’m known to use a lot of salt and pepper on everything I eat. Not tonight! Everything was seasoned perfectly! There are no words to even describe the perfect Ribeye, other then mouth watering paradise of all Steaks. I made sure to let our server know just how great the food was. And she said she would be sure to let the cook know. When we decide to eat out again, that is my only choice from now on! My wife had the country fried steak, which I was lucky enough that she shared a few bites with me, it to was better then other places I’ve had. Also noticed a hamburger pass by to the table behind us, it had to be at least 4 or 5 inches tall. After eating, on my way out, I stopped and took some time to see the pictures, newspaper articles and all the model trains throughout the restaurant. I can’t wait to go back! My only regret, is that I misjudged the place all these years and haven’t been there sooner. It is my goto place from here on out tho, and I HIGHLY recommend it if you haven’t been there already. They also sell a variety of pies and...
Read moreI'm very torn, while I love the food at Stoby's I find that to go orders are only filled correctly about 50% of the time. It's usually not a big deal; today, for instance, instead of small Coke with no ice and Diet Dr Pepper with no ice, both drinks had ice, and the coke was not carbonated and tasted remarkably similar to sweet tea. In fact it was sweet tea. This is not a really big deal, unless you happen to be allergic to tea or something. I mean it didn't put anyone's life at risk. I just hope whoever filled the order has no plans of becoming a cardiologist, or an RN, or a nuclear engineer, or air traffic controller or really doing anything noteworthy with their life. In most lines of work details matter, they matter a lot. As a consumer, who is paying for a service, little things that may not seem like much, matter to me. (probably more than they should) I placed the order online, and on the online payment screen I was prompted to leave a tip. I did. So whoever screwed up got rewarded and reinforced for their lack of focus. Come on guys, really, don't you have any pride or work ethic? I suppose there is a reason that not everybody gets to be an astronaut, but is it so hard to get a food order correct? I also find it interesting that I've never had this issue when eating in the establishment, it's only the drive thru that fails to ensure the order is as ordered. Let's just please step it up a notch please? Thanks for the...
Read moreStoby's is a Russellville area classic, with a cozy, small town atmosphere you'll love. The train-themed restaurant sits by the railroad track across from the old train depot, and features a side dining room that's (tada!) an old train car! How cool is that? As other reviewers noted, there's even an old train whistle that you can blow. Where was this place when I was a kid?
The menu is as classic as the restaurant, with the centerpiece being a "blueprint diagram" of the signature Stoby sandwich, which you can get with your choice of meats, cheeses, bread and fixins. The jambalaya is good too, but I most always get a Stoby on pita bread with an order of their legendary cheese dip and chips. I've eaten one or two (ok, maybe a few more!) of 'em in the past four decades....and they're always really good. The breakfast is excellent too, one of the best in Russellville, and they also have scrumptious desserts.
The wait staff is super nice and the service is usually very fast. Stoby's slow periods are as busy as some places' busiest times, and when it really gets to zippin' your food somehow still comes out to you fairly quickly. They always keep a close eye on your drinks, ask if you need anything, and just generally take good care of you.
The food quality, portion size, menu variety, service and decor are all great, and the prices aren't too bad. Stoby's, may you have another...
