Ate here Sat, July 8, 2023. They are often at the Ruston Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, it smelled pretty good today, so decided to try them at their restaurant location. I guess, since it is "auténtico", I was expecting something like what I've had in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Bernalillo, and Las Vegas, New Mexico. Far from it. I had a newer menu item, the Chilaquiles. The young lady at the counter tried to explain it, but really couldn't, so it would be a surprise for me, but that is OK. I enjoy food adventures and new flavors. 😋 Basically it was nacho or tortilla chips drenched with cheese sauce, then topped with steak tidbits, a little tiny amount of onion and some cilantro. It was very bland to me. 🤨 No flavor that is memorable. 😕 I've never been to Mexico City, so maybe that's the way they like it there. It definitely was not hot with jalapeño, in fact none was in it, nor had New Mex or any other kind of hot pepper or bell pepper. Cheese sauce I think is homemade since I have not had any heartburn at all in the last hour after eating like I do with canned sauce from the grocery store. For me, I would have liked a lot more onion, like half an onion on mine, plus 3 or 4 sprigs or tablespoons of cilantro, plus a teaspoon of cumin in the beef. And maybe one or two hot peppers chopped up and thrown into the mix. Maybe they tone it down for local tastes, but that's not me since I did not grow up around here, plus I have traveled a lot out of state. For my tastes I still prefer Don Tomas on 6th Street or El Paso on 165 in Monroe or the new Taco food truck at Railroad Park here in Ruston. Also, I am on a low-salt diet and this was not salty, so that is a...
Read moreI had lunch at Tacos the Guero on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. I had the taco platter which consisted of 2 tacos, rice, beans, and pico de gallo. You had the option of several types of tacos so I chose the steak and carnitas. To me the carnitas was much better. The rice had a nice flavor. You had the choice of black or pinto beans and I chose the pintos which were very good. The cost of the plate was $8.89. The tacos were made of soft tortillas with a generous amount of meat. The tortillas were small which I had to roll up to eat. My suggestion would be to use a larger plate for in-store dining and increase the size of...
Read moreIf I could give more stars I would. The carnitas were tender, flavorful, and amply served in a corn tortilla that had been grilled. The asada taco was also excellent, but the carnitas ensure that should we be in this area again, we will return. We also got chicken and shrimp tacos, but honestly, have I mentioned the carnitas??
Salsa and chips were TOTALLY worth it. Chips were freshly cut and fried, sprinkled with seasonings, and the salsa was FIRE. The heat was perfectly balanced with just enough flavor to keep us dipping and dipping...
