This place had really good reviews so I think I will give it another try. I ordered a small ice cream (one scoop) with chocolate jimmies and chose a waffle cone. The menu was vast and wonderful. There were so many different varieties , so many unique types of ice cream and a big sign that says they make their own. We tipped well because despite there being a lot of people there , they had every window open ,each window was attended by a person taking orders, and there were staff in the back making ice creams. Everyone was on point and moving the crowd as fast as possible . They had a very well organized , polite and motivated staff.
3 stars for atmosphere . There was plenty of parking but I don't recall picnic tables or an area to sit at. The place was clean overall.
3 stars for the food. For my scoop of ice cream , I chose the Almond Joy. I had high hopes as that is one of my favorite things. It took a while but the cone came out , it was jam packed , it was covered in jimmies and it tasted amazing. The reason why it got 3 stars was because every lick uncovered a whole almond. Every bite was a literal mouth full of almonds. By the time I was finished , I had eaten an entire snack size bag of almonds in one single scoop of ice cream. It was MOSTLY almonds. I wish I knew , I would not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe hard ice cream tends to have a bit of an after taste, somewhere between the flavor of a flat soda water or baking soda. The chocolate flavors taste more like vanilla rather than a rich chocolate flavor. It just may be the additives, food coloring, or preservatives that create this less than desirable flavor.
Portions are large, largely because the ice cream is more air than cream.
The soft serve ice cream and hot fudge are excellent.
I agree with a previous post regarding debit cards. Lago's definitely should accept them. Stillwell's accepts them. Annabelle's accepts them. The Beach Plum accepts them. All of these places have similar portion sizes and prices. I do not accept that they are passing on any savings to customers by not accepting credit cards. Many published studies have proven consumers spend more when using a debit card vs. cash. Hence, this is why most food service places accept them. If I am going to pay $9.75 for a Brownie Sundae at Lago's, I would expect them to accept a debit card. The ATM on site wants to charge me $4.00 as a service fee, whereas the debit card transaction would be fractions of a penny for Lago's. Prices increase steadily each season, so why not roll it up into the cost...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDecent ice cream, friendly service, and a good location. They are cash only, but if you donāt bring cash they have an ATM. Flavors we got were all very sweet and the serving sizes were generous. The small cup that I got was the biggest āsmallā cup of ice cream that Iāve ever seen. This wouldnāt be a problem, except that they wonāt let you split a small into two flavors. I didnāt even want two flavors, but with how large the smalls are here it seems absurd to not allow them to be split into two flavors. I could be wrong, but I didnāt think the Oreo in the āOreoā ice cream I got was real Oreos. They tasted more like the knockoff āsandwich cookiesā than real Oreos, which I also like. Didnāt really take away from the experience, but it seems misleading to call it Oreo ice cream if they arenāt real Oreos. A few flavors my FiancĆ© got were supposed to have Oreos and Nutella swirls in them and we struggled to find Oreo bits or defined Nutella swirls in either of her flavors. Itās ice cream though, canāt be mad at something so delicious, but it is something to keep in mind. The convenient location on such a main road and variety of flavors make this place hard to pass up if youāre in the mood for ice cream and passing by....
