Located right on Route 1 in Saco, it’s easy to find and has plenty of parking, which makes stopping in super convenient — even on busy summer days. Their ice cream is rich, creamy, and full of flavor — made right there on site. It’s a favorite with both locals and visitors. There’s also a fun mini golf course next door, making it a perfect stop for families, date nights, or just a relaxing break on a sunny afternoon. As someone who has food allergies, getting ice cream at an ice cream stand is not something that I get to do often. With this said, I took my kids here for ice cream and after they ordered, I was asked what I wanted. I said I had food allergies and that I was all set. Without missing beat, the woman working started telling me all of the options I had (including washing scoops and opening new ice cream, and getting a cone that was just made). Not once did they huff or complain or anything (sadly, this is a VERY common thing to happen to me) and went out of their way so I could enjoy ice cream with my kids. As a bonus-it was yummy too!

Martel’s is the best homemade hard serve ice cream you will find in Saco. They’ve been around for over 30 years. It is a small, family owned shop that has a great selection of flavors and rotating flavors! My favorite is Coffee Oreo. Their waffle cones are made fresh daily and smell and taste amazing! There is plenty of off street parking and not usually a huge line. Is is the place to stop! Enjoy!

They make fresh ice cream from scratch but also offer one flavor raspberry ice for those allergic to dairy. I keep hoping for more dairy free options. Update: They now have dairy-free ice cream made with a coconut base. It's very smooth, delicious, and I can now have ice cream with the entire family. My favorite are chocolate raspberry and mixed berry. They also have Chocolate coconut, Pina-Colada, Tropical breeze, and Strawberry. They also have an oat based one called Pistachio Nut. Its delicious 😋.They usually only have two dairy-free options at a time, but you are sure to find something that you will enjoy. Family friendly operated and always a fun and happy place to visit. My wife and myself have been customers of Martel's for a very long time (1997 or so). Mr. Martel built this business with his charm and "hey guys" every time he saw a customer. The ice cream is very good, creamy, packed with flavor, and portions are generous. Two scoops usually does he job. Frappes are one of my favorite items.

They are always making up special flavors. The Maine Mud is a perennial favorite of mine, grasshopper too.

Be prepared to wait when the days are hot, as everyone in southern Maine seems to show up. Use caution in the parking lot with little ones. The team works fast to get customers served and enjoying...
