Well its one of those hot days, triple digit days, where i don't know what i want to eat or where to go. Since i was in the area to do some errands, i was like you know i always want to come here, but never did. It was just one of those days its perfect to make a stop and try it out. . I went not he website and saw they have $4.95 for lunch specials. well let me tell you what comes with $4.95 - soup of the day, rice, entree, and a crispy egg roll. You kidding me, eating like a king on a budget is what I'm saying. . So here i go inside and was like wow this place is small with very minimal tables. Of course it is own by asians. lots of vegan or non vegans like me who is down for anything, it was exciting for me to try something bomb. . I went for the Mongolian Beef wonder with steam rice. . The soup of the day reminds me of egg flour soup, but without the egg. The soup contained a thick gravy like soup, with carrots, pea, and some pasta noodles in it. . The crispy egg roll which came with the meal was actually crispy and great with the dipping sauce. The egg roll contained veggies and vermicelli which i liked and will order again. . The Mongolian beef came out looking like the real deal but its vegan soy meat which I'm like wow. The Mongolian wonder came with a nice blend of green chives, red bell pepper, and contained no spicy when i requested spicy. The flavoring of the Mongolian beef was missing something, but presentation was nice. The steam rice is not jasmine rice but it is steam white rice tho. . overall the price is great and i was satisfy with my meal. Was the food like wow? well it didn't do the wow for me. But i am willing to come back for a repeat and try other stuff on the menu with my vegan friends. it is a deal when you balling on a budget and trying to watch how you spend. umm service was alright didnt come back to check how everything was or refill water but she was busy and only one waitress so its understandable. Thanks for reading and keep it...
Read moreI am a habitually omniverous eater, having had no real interest in vegetarian cuisine throughout my life. However, all that recently changed, when a new friend raved about Anna's Vegan Cafe. My friend is a poet and a retired educator, whose opinion I have come to highly regard; at any rate, he suggested that I try what he called an 'excellent vegan cafe' (Anna's) and see if my opinion of vegan cuisine didn't rise appreciably. Long story short, I did try Anna's and to say I was amazed is a gross understatement! Anna is from Southeast Asia and she is the sweetest person you could ever meet! Not only that, but her vegan style food is absolutely astounding! I've been there several times with my friends and tried a number of dishes, all prepared in authentic SEA vegan style, every one of them being absolutely delicious. Being a typical Honkey/Guai-Loh, I am unabashedly fond of the usual 'occidental' favorites (sweet & sour, orange & lemon flavored chicken substitute, and 'Mongolian Delight' dishes), but everything she serves is top rate. The Thai Tea is delightful and of course the peanut sauce flavored dishes are also excellent. I've never had a bad food experience there and Anna personally is always charming and welcoming to her guests. The restaurant is small and unpretentious, tucked on a corner of Stockton Blvd not far from 14th Street, but eating here is a very, very pleasing experience and I find myself eating at Anna's regularly now. If you've been skeptical of the delights (or benefits) of vegan style cuisine, give Anna's a try. I guarantee your attitude will change instantly! Anna's prices are quite modest, too, all of which adds up to an excellent...
Read moreI have been eyeballing this place for a very long time. I wasn't exactly sure of where it was located. It's in a good area a little out of the way. The decor is a bit dated & the videos online on the website from customers didn't make me rush over. However, I waa pleasantly surprised today. I ordered a last minute lunch special before they close at 2pm to reopen at 4pm for dinner hours. The guy at the front desk and the lady cook were both very kind, attentive, and hospitable. My food was ready in a quick 10 minutes. Very convenient if I have my car but, usually around this time of day I am parked in a huge parking structure far away from my job so I don't usually drive anywhere during my lunch break at 1pm. I ordered the #10 and a side of spring rolls which are my new favorite. The plant based beef reminds me of the beef bugolgi that I get on occasion from Trader Joe's but, Anna's texture is slightly more chewy. The rice and fresh salad all refreshing and delicious. I am interested in trying more dishes and will load more photos. I want to try the orange vegan chicken dish soon. All in All great first experience. I grabbed menus for my daughter and I next time we want some plant-based food before 7pm Tuesday through Friday. We have another new option...
