DO NOT BOOK ASIAN PEARL FOR AN EVENT by any means necessary. Terrible customer service, all amenities are broken, and Asian Pearl will not do anything about it.
Sadly, the recent birthday party we booked at this establishment was the WORST service we could have possibly received which ruined the party and soured the memories of what was supposed to be a beautiful celebration. Note that about 10 years ago we held a similar celebration that went fine, so we thought returning here in 2022 would work well again - but we could not have been more wrong. This place completely declined in quality and NO ONE should ever book an event here again.
We paid the full price they asked of us for our 110 people party, which was supposed to include food, all of their amenities and staff for the event space of the back half of the resturant which is separated by a removable wall. We booked a DJ, planned to show video, and planned out the layout of the back half of the resturant for our event.
The amenities we planned to use were ALL BROKEN. Digital screen - broken. Projector - broken. Speakers - all but one broken which was still malfunctioning. Stacks of chairs that we did not need were left in the room on set up day which did not make for a nice looking event.
The WORST part of all of this is that we booked our event being told that we were the only party planned for that date. However, come to our surprise on the day of, we discovered that we were DOUBLE BOOKED and that there was an entire party happening on the other side of their removable wall. At first, this did not seem like a problem as we were setting up, but it ended up being the most crucial component to ruining our event that we had paid Asian Pearl several thousand dollars for.
Because we were double booked, we had members of the other party walking into our party to use the only restroom available in the venue. That was more of an annoyance than a total event killer, but still unprofessional nonetheless.
Because we were double booked, we had half of staff service. We had multiple requests from the servers that were never fulfilled - simple things like serving beverages or delivering food were either never met or took multiple times asking.
The other party they double booked WITHOUT OUR KNOWLEDGE was so loud and rowdy that we could not hear anything in our own party. We could not hear any of our speeches, music, or videos through the venue's already half broken speaker system. When we asked the manangers to tell the other party to turn their music and microphone down, nothing was done. After asking for a third time, I had to physically stand in the doorway between the parties and watch the manager go up to their equipment to turn it down. Even then, the rowdy party would turn their music back up which drowned out our event. I kept asking the staff to turn it down so frequently that they began avoiding me and walking away from me when I was heading their direction.
We could not even enjoy our own event. Our guests were shocked and completely distracted by the neighboring party and lack of service from the staff. It was so chaotic that it completely ruined what was supposed to be an extremely sentimental celebration for our family. The main recollection that all of our guests had is that the party next door was so loud and rowdy that we could not focus and enjoy our own, and Asian Pearl never told us about the other event nor did anything to help manage it
We recently returned to complain about all of these shortcomings and the owner only offered a $200 refund. That's all. One of the biggest moments of our family member's life that we spent years imagining, months planning, and thousands of dollars on -...
Read moreNO GOOD FOR EVENTS. How this owner has approached customer service for special events is telling of what your experience will be for your special occasion. My family booked this place for a once in a lifetime Debut, a very special and traditional 18th birthday party for Filipino culture. During the entire party you could hear extremely loud rave/karaoke music from the event on the opposite partition. Mind you we paid everything the owner asked for which was very pricey and we obtained bad service regardless.
Complaint #1: THEY DID NOT TELL US THEY DOUBLE BOOKED. The debut includes a traditional Waltz dance, speeches by aunties/uncles/guests, a slideshow of the young woman coming of age, etc. All of these memories were clouded by the noise next door. Attempt #1: OWNER IGNORED REQUESTS. We asked the manager to lower music next door during speeches. Long after asking we discovered the owner was actually in charge (halfway through speeches) and we asked him to lower music. He did not. We asked again. They turned music down for 15 minutes and it pursued.
Complaint #2: BROKEN AMENITIES THAT YOU PAID FOR. The projector, speakers, and white screen were unaccounted for or broken. We had to bring our own.
Complaint #3: SERVERS IGNORE YOU TOO! The main young woman we were celebrating was being ignored by servers when she requested for food which she never got. How do you leave the main person starving? In addition, some guests could not find the alcohol, asked for refills or additional orders, and had difficulty finding servers because they were attending next door. Something to keep in mind if you bring kids here. I'm just saying - starve us adults all you want but not the kids - and the main person! Attempt #2: We continued to waive down servers, guests left their tables during speeches to get help, and we had to peak our heads next door to get food/drinks. What is the point of having servers in this situation?
Complaint #4: NO ACCOUNTABILITY A WARNING TO WEDDING VENUE INTERESTS! Attempt #3: Family returned to discuss and asked owner if there was a wedding would he continue for the loud music to play as it did for our event. He nodded and said, "Yes, you're not the only one with an event." He offered a measly discount, continued to yell at my aunt, and told us to never come back. We did not yell once and attempted reasoning with him calmly. He walked away and ignored us again
Dear owner: Please reconsider the way this event was handled and take the opportunity to understand that people are seeking to share unique special occasions at your restaurant. If they chose your venue, they have a right to quality services, promised amenities, and the right to be heard if their experience was not appropriate. If this is the experience you are promising then a discount and simple empathy to the family would help.
P.S If you respond to this with a negative comment I will happily upload your video conversation on google so people can see your face and know what kind of aggressive and unsatisfactory customer service you are providing. We will not come back and will continue to warn people in the asian community...
Read moreThis used to be our absolute favorite place to come for dim sum when we came in from Reno. We were there yesterday, admittedly near 3:00, when they were finishing up dim sum and they were out of BBQ pork buns and custard tarts. We were served 1 plate of chive shrimp dumplings, that were on the last cart with all the other leftovers from the earlier diners. We ordered 2 orders of sesame balls, our favorite, and 2 orders to take back to Reno. When I bit into mine, there was all white rice flour and I asked my Chinese mom and uncle what that was because usually black bean paste fills the sesame ball. My uncle tried his and said it was uncooked dough. We sent our 2 orders back and said the middle was uncooked and when it returned, it was exactly the same, uncooked innerds. We said we did not want any of those sesame balls and removed the 2 orders from the to-go order. I surmised the price of black bean paste has gone up, so the balls are mostly sweet rice, but too thick to fry without the sesames becoming overcooked. The dim sum pork ribs were all bone and gristle but we didn't even complain about that. The $5.40 for hot tea was quite a surprise, but the worst was the bill. Everything we ordered was written in English, except one item, and when I asked the cashier what it was, she said the 4 orders of sesame balls. When I told her we returned them, she said, "You ate two of them, didn't you?" I was stunned because we bit into the sit down order and the to-go order to see if they were the same inedible sesame balls. She reluctantly removed the 4 orders, but how sneaky can you get? Unfortunately, this was the second bad experience here and have written it off. Perhaps they had a regular menu, but was never...
