I pre-ordered a Pandan cake with Durian filling with “Happy Thanksgiving” written on top. I let the bakery decide on the decorations. What I got was both one of the ugliest decorated cakes that did not even give off the feeling of the Thanksgiving holiday and worst tasting Durian. The decoration did not give me the feeling that they can take on a wedding cake. My purpose was to try their cakes and see if they are a good fit to do my wedding cake. There is no creativity and passion for this type of cake. Pandan and durian are not common cakes these days after many Viet bakeries closed. Original Durian cake is from San Jose. The real Pandan and Durian cake is both delicious and smells amazing. The Pandan sponge cake was the only part that saved this cake but it was not worth the price $52 for 6” cake when there is a comparable competitor in Elk Grove. This is the only bakery so far that I found to make Pandan cake in the area. The Durian filling is most disappointing. It tasted like frozen durian from a box and not taken fresh from the fruit. There were hard unripe pieces of durian instead of the soft flesh. The real durian cake takes the soft flesh and mixes it with fresh whip cream that is piped onto the sponge cake. They just laid the durian pieces in the cake and it made the cake soggy and the taste was awful. Real Durian cake will also take the soft flesh and whip cream and spread it on the outside. Each time I came there were little to no customers and not much to buy. The front counter ladies were not very pleasant to talk with and I felt I was rushed out before I can ask more about their services. Also they won’t tell me who is the baker so I can discuss other specialty orders. I have no confidence in this bakery that they can pull off specialty cake orders.

My sister and I wanted to try this place after we saw the advertisement from our Facebook group... When we went there , we decided to share a crepe. We decided on the strawberry crepe that comes with a Nutella, whipped cream and fresh strawberries... As we were waiting the employee came up to us with two custard tarts and apologized that there is a wait and as an apology gift she gave us the tarts .. we didn't expect that and not we didn't care about the wait.. we were on lesuire time and just wanted to relax and enjoy the atmosphere... Even though it took 45 minutes, it was worth the wait... The crepe dish was the best crepe we ever had in a long time .. it was nice and warm and the batter was made at the time of order, you can watch the fruit being cut in front of you while you wait.. I highly recommend if you're patient, don't mind waiting and wanting the fresh warm best crepe of your life. Oh the egg custard tarts are excellent too . Will be going back soon with the family to experience an excellent time and fill their tummies with crepes... Just a little secret... The crepes are big and filling, sharing with a person you like, makes it more enjoyable when you're fighting for the last bite . Lol

05.03.24 Walked over after lunch at Asian Pearl Restaurant (highly recommend the restaurant!), bought 4x red bean filled fried sesame balls ($2.28ea) & a blueberry cheese pastry which they call pie ($2.98). Sesame balls were soft & chewy, needed more red bean filling and was slightly too greasy but very good tasting. Blueberry cheese pastry was ok, kind of dense, dry, not crispy on the outside, just basic, and could not taste either blueberry nor cheese, had no filling, would not order again. Costco's pastries beat this blueberry cream pastry by miles. Highly recommend Costco pastries. Our go to is Paris Baguette (Korean) who's pastries are similar to real French pastries = light, never heavy or dense, crispy buttery exterior, soft inside. Or 85° Bakery (Taiwanese). Service was fine, interior they had a lot of open seating which is good, bakery seemed clean. Would not patron again because really, it's a bakery, pastries should taste good, not bland/basic/generic.

I have been waiting for almost a decade for a Hong Kong style bakery to open up in Sacramento. When I first moved to Sac, I tried ABC Bakery and it had some good staples, but it wasn’t quite enough for me.

Now you might be thinking, what’s a Hong Kong Style Bakery; this genre is nothing ground breaking but having grown up on this stuff, there are some definite classics: 1) Hong Kong Style Milk Tea, 2) cocktail bun, 3) red bean bun, 4) Taro bun, 5) egg tarts, 6) HK style Swiss roll. I think they do a great job with these items. I tried the chicken pie which they also made well. It brought back a lot memories with some buttery goodness.

You know what, it wasn’t a whole paycheck like a nearby bakery (both have their merits but dollar for dollar, I think the value is here). I wasn’t able to try their breakfast combo this time around but it’s on the list. I think they did a good job rounding out their menu with some dessert and lunch items too. Another review mentioned about kicking you out if you don’t buy something, and I think that’s pretty normal (esp by south sac standards), no loitering. Keep up the great work Pegasus. I hope you’ll be around for my grandkids...
