We’ve been loyal customers of Duc Hương Bánh Mì, often traveling from Fairfield just to get their sandwiches. However, after today’s experience, we won’t be returning.

I ordered six large garlic pork bánh mì to go, specifically requesting veggies on the side multiple times. When we received our order, the sandwiches already had veggies inside. Since we were traveling a long distance, I politely asked the cashier if they could be remade to prevent them from getting soggy. A staff member initially took the sandwiches back, but shortly after, the original cashier informed us that they couldn’t redo them because it was a garlic bánh mì—only regular ones could be remade.

She then claimed she didn’t hear me ask for veggies on the side, but the person standing next to me confirmed that I had said it multiple times. While she apologized for not hearing me, they still refused to fix the order. I even suggested they could resell the sandwiches, since they were the popular grilled pork variety, but they refused and told me my only option was to take the incorrect order or buy six new ones.

I walked out shocked. We’ve made the trip here countless times, but their unwillingness to correct their mistake has lost them a dedicated customer. A good business isn’t just about the food—it’s also about how they handle their customers. Unfortunately, Duc Hương...

There is a long line no matter when you come here. . I come here during peak hours just be prepare to wait but hey they have 3 registers. But the processing of making sandwiches does take time even if there are multiple people doing the sandwiches. . So I come here for their banh mi which is viet sandwiches such as the combo one which comes with viet ham and viet home made meats with veggies and jalapenos. I always request garlic bread over the regular bread. . Also I like getting the vegeterian which comes with ear mushrooms and tofu skin and I request it with garlic bread. . Also I love their grilled pork sandwiches too with garlic bread. . My all time favorite must at least once a week is the banh cuon which is this thin layer of rice noodle wrapped with minced pork and wood ear mushroom. And dipped with fish sauce and I am in heaven! I get the big box of that for like 4.85 which is so worth it. So fresh on the weekends not sure if they sell during weekday but if they do must get when they first open otherwise it's gone in a few hours. . Parking is chaotic but hey that's where the best food is at so you must if your craving for some bomb sandwiches ;) try their sides such as the banh cuon and other little snacks. . I dont normally eat here because it's hot and a long line but they do have tables. I usually take home...

Sunday, 6/20/2021 - Went to "Gio Cha Duc Huong Sandwhiches" to try them out. I read a lot of good review on Facebook about this location. This is location is located in a shopping plaza with lots of other little stores. It's at the corner of 65th street and Stockton Blvd.

Upon arrival:

Pros:

  1. lots of parking spaces. But it is a busy plaza.
  2. restaurant was pretty empty. Only 4 people ahead of us. You order inside.
  3. order line went quick. There's 4 order windows, I believe.
  4. they give you a receipt with your order number. You pick up your order outside. They'll call your order number.
  5. we got our sandwich within 10 minutes-ish. We ordered #1, Combination Sandwich for $5.50.
  6. French bread not too thick and crunchy. Not as soft as how I read the FB reviews. But maybe that's because we went around 1:30pm and not early morning when they open. The ingredients in the sandwich were all fresh and crunchy, which is how we like it.
  7. inside store had other foods you can buy as well.

Cons: No cons as this was just an order to go. Service was pretty fast. Sandwich good.

Conclusion: Not a bad sandwich shop. I'll have to go again and try...

IMO these are the absolute best Bahn mi sandwiches in town, and they have the best fresh baked baguettes also! The bread has a crispy crunchy outer bite with a soft chewy inside. Their patte is soooo good, & I always order the number 3 (grilled pork). Everything is made fresh daily and made to order. After paying for your meal you receive your receipt with your order number on the top. You then go wait outside by the other door for your order to be called. I waited about 20 minutes, there were 8 others before myself. So do beware, the lines get looong, especially if you come later in the day. It'll be hard to avoid. Also parking can be limited if you come later in the day, so be prepared to scout around and walk to your destination if necessary. Another thing I love, they charge $6 for a Bahn mi, they don't charge extra if you ask for more jalapeños or cilantro like other places. They also have baked, snacks, hot foods, and drinks inside as well as baguettes they make for the day too. Another important thing to note is that there is no dine in, its all take out! Definitely check them out for the best bite in town, hopefully you'll enjoy it!

Wanted to like this place, bc it was recommended by family. Order process for pickups is straight up stupid. I call in at 9:03, arrive at 9:35 and pay. It is at this point that they finally take the order to make the sandwiches. Didn't get sandwiches til 9:56, almost 1 hour from when I first called in. Totally defeats the purpose of calling in ahead of time. They need to learn to improve this process. Go online ordering like the rest of real banh mi businesses. Owners may be too cheap to try to go to such a system, but if you're reading this--it's worth it! The sandwiches are decent though. Bread is good. Got the BBQ pork and special banh mi. Shockingly, the special banh mi doesn't have mayo. It would have been great with. I don't understand this decision, as I've never had special banh mi with no mayo. Just felt like something was missing. BBQ pork is pretty good though.
