Well I was very hopeful after reading the reviews and planned on ordering one thing but because they were out of fish and macaroni n cheese, I switched my plans and ordered the oxtails… well they were $30 plus dollars (with rice and two additional sides which is typical from my experience in Houston, Tx but in Houston it’s $17 and you get 5 large oxtails) nonetheless the price didn’t deter me because after all I am in the expensive high cost living California … got my plate and was sorely disappointed… hadn’t even gotten out the restaurant when checking my bag which was placed on the table by the staff, gravy everywhere, rice mushy, three very small oxtails and minimal sides of sweet potatoes and greens (see picture) but was missing my cornbread, got my cornbread and left… finally sit down to eat and was still hopeful; however, the oxtails were bland, sweet potatoes tasted like lemon juice nothing sweet about them at all, my cornbread was soaked in the remaining gravy which spilled even more… quality of plate I’m presuming… for $30 plus dollars and tip 41.00 total I had to add seasoning and hot sauce to the very tender oxtails and I ate tasty greens as they were! Gave the mushy rice, bland gravy, and sweet potatoes to my dog after I finished but she wouldn’t touch the sweet potatoes either!! Definitely not worth the price!!! I went to this place off Google suggestion because I was looking for another soul food place my cousin recommended which happened to be closed. Very disappointing to say the least!! To end on a positive note, the staff was nice and the atmosphere was cozy as I ordered and waited for my food (which is why I gave 2 stars versus 1)

The Snapper Po Boy Sandwich was delicious as was the potato salad side as part of the combo. Friendly people and good service as well. Thanks for a great experience!

Really good flavor, definitely homemade. Rice was mushy but the gravy helped. Greens were good. The macaroni and cheese, OH MY GOODNESS was awesome!!! Love the multiple cheeses! I didn’t give higher rating because of the fact I asked if the smothered chicken was dark meat. I told both people that I didn’t want white meat. I got home to find that they gave me chicken breast strips!!! They were out of peach cobbler so I got the sweet potato pie. Not only was the pie burnt, it was made with šŸ  yams not sweet potatoes. I admit I ate the side of macaroni and cheese while driving. I just had to finish it. It was like lays potato chip commercial, I couldn’t eat just one bitešŸ˜‚! Thank you for your prompt response. The young ladies that were taking the orders should know what parts of chicken is being served. It would’ve allowed me to order something different. Considering the fact that I’m new to the area there’s no way for me to have known what was no longer on the menu. I thought they were providing accurate information. I have been cooking for at least 4 decades so I definitely know the difference between sweet potatoes and yams as well as pumpkin. No matter which of the pies listed, ones first bite should not be just potato. It should’ve been smoother which avails the opportunity to taste spices throughout. I say it was yam pie because that’s what it tasted like as well as the color. I’m disappointed the owner deleted their response. I merely posted my opinions and posted pictures of food I purchased. Perhaps in the future instead of snapping at a customer, reach out and attempt to provide assistance.

This was my first time 06/18 ordering from Colo’s. I ordered from a ā€œSurpriseā€ App that sells leftover/surplus food of the restaurants’s choice (surprise), so as to not waste food.

I was pleasantly greeted immediately by Staff (cashier), a young man who was so humble and polite; and the restaurant was very clean (no flies, fishy or old grease smell), festive music, decor and well organized.

In less than 10mins another young man (cook?) also greeted me politely and made sure to ask if I had been helped.

The staff, both gentlemen were very professional, friendly and the cashier had a lot of patience with me since I’m technically challenged and new to the App so he helped me to navigate the system.

The food was absolutely delicious, very generous portions for the value of a no waste meal. The food was hot and fresh and the wait wasn’t long at all.

The only negative (NOT on restaurant) was my disappointment that I was given one ā€œsurpriseā€ meal of Catfish, which I’m not allowed to eat so I had to give it away, but the fried chicken meal was very well seasoned and the sides were too.

I would highly recommend Colo’s and based on the service and quality of the ā€œsurpriseā€ meal, I would definitely pay for a full meal dinner.

To the Owner’s please continue your participation with the App, it’s such a great way to try a new restaurant/cuisine without being disappointed when you try something new and you are either dissatisfied with the restaurant (service, ambiance) or the food (quality or taste) causing a bad experience and the customer not wanting to come back to try anything new again.

Also I love the concept of not ā€œwastingā€ (throwing out) food by selling the leftover/surplus; it’s a big plus of encouraging me to continue to support...

I read reviews from customers for over 8 months. Mainly on tiktoc and Sacramento reviewers on IG. Even though the reviews were mixed we decided to support a black owned business on Juneteenth. We waited about 25mins for our food & it was nice and hot! Our 1st mistake was being the 3rd customer there as soon as they opened at 1pm. Their Mac and yams wasn't ready. I was disappointed because most reviews said that it was good. The cashier/waitress & hostesses (all the same person) was SUPER nice and attentive! We chose the 2 meat plate with 2 sides. Deep fried ribs, catfish, rice/gravy and fried okra. My catfish batter fell off almost immediately, the fish smelled like the ocean and wasn't done enough for me. The fish was pretty thin too. The dried fried ribs had zero flavor and the membrane on the ribs wasn't removed. They were tough/tasteless. The gravy on the rice tasted like gumbo roux to me, but my husband liked it. The fried okra was the best on the plate. My canned sprite was luke warm, however I was offered a glass with ice. My husband's COORS was ice cold right out the bottle. We were there for roughly a hour and a half and never once were we offered the Mac n cheese nor the yams, but we were given Hawaiian rolls. We had the pleasure of sitting by a first timer like ourselves and she was just as disappointed. She also wanted the mac and yams. She said the cabbage was drenced in vinegar. Flies were on us as if we were eating in the park. Management was super nice and apologetic. Our bill was $40.00, and more than likely we won't return, but I would encourage people to give them a try and form your own opinion. I tried to add pics but for some...
